Great Purchase

It's highly suitable fro a second machine. It's light, portable and gives out more than 5 1/2 hours of juice. Did have a few problems with the unit, but HP replaced it, took time, but delivered through.
They do their customer support well

HP DM1

I bought this as a 2nd PC for when I am travelling and, when at home, to download films and iPlayer. For travelling, it is light and easy to carry in hand luggage. Good battery life and storage. Is a fully functional PC unlike a tablet or smartphone. At home, the HDMI port means we can watch HD films. Only slight niggles are occasional stutter on playback and loss of lip synch which only happens after pausing. Also, for some reason, the free Office Starter takes an age to open. Overall, very pleased with it.

Poor quality plastic around the screen
on April 4, 2012

The plastic around the screen is so soft, that if you wipe it with a very soft duster, it is immediately covered in fine scratches. The fact that it is shiny doesn't help, but it should be a much harder material.
A real shame that an otherwise good product is completely ruined.

good value, light weight, as expected

I'm happy with this notebook from HP, just as light as the ultrabooks, all interfaces, not as slim, but for less than half the price is worth the money.
The CPU is not as good as an i5 (not even i3 I suppose) but the integrated graphics is I would say better than Intel's equivalents and not as power hungry.
Using it for browsing and emails is as good as any. I'm using it on a desk with HD external monitor on HDMI.
I expected to hear no fan noise when it's not doing much (this was the main reason for purchasing this notebook), I have to admit that I can hear it, I suppose because the CPU would not go below 50% of max clock. But the noise is tolerable and constant.
Shame the display is not antiglare, but then, not that many antiglare LCD on the market.
All in all, not bad, I would give it 4/5.

My New Best Friend!

Until recently I've done all my work on a 17.3" laptop with a Core2Duo chip. I bought this dm1 so that I could use it to work whilst away from home. I did not expect to be able to do so much! Its fast, I really don't notice the difference in processor speed most of the time. The screen is brilliant. Wi-fi and Bluetooth work faultlessly. The hard-drive is more than ample for all my files.
It comes with me everywhere, I tether it to my phone if I need an internet connection, and I can work on CAD drawings as if I were at home. I even use it home INSTEAD of my main computer!
It streams BBC iPlayer perfectly, and its a delight to view, especially convenient when in bed, or relaxing in an armchair.
I have been so impressed with this dm1 that I bought a second one for my daughter who is at university and was having problems dragging her 17" laptop around to classes.
I had considered a tablet of some sort, but I'm glad I chose this, not least for the excellent keyboard. I've also got a bluetooth numeric keypad and a graphics tablet for accounting and drawing purposes, both of which work extremely well and the dm1 set them up in seconds.
Got to give it 11 out of 10!

V good piece of kit, have already recommended it to another.
Audio system excellent for voice-entry, with both on-board mic and plug.
Keyboard easy to type on.
V good wireless connectivity.
Value for money.
HP help features a little irritating for expert computer user, but would defiantly get a beginner on-track, and can be turned off easily without compromising the box.

Very Happy Customer

I needed a laptop that was light and easy to transport around with my busy on the road schedule and this fits's the bill perfectly. I can get it into my handbag which is even better as I now only have to carry one bag to meetings, etc. The performance for me is great as I just use it for general docs, presentations and spreedsheets. I don't do any gaming so can't comment on the speed for this type of use.

Nice little machine on offer when I got it. Has 3 USB's (really useful) and it was bought to travel with and replace old laptop. So far it has been fine and done its job. Good value for the money.
