This laptop crashed with the Blue Screen of Death from day one, which should be the most stable. No matter what, the laptop crashes more than any system I have ever worked with. This system even crashes if Windows Update runs. I will never buy a Samsung laptop again because of this horrible experience.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have just bought my Samsung R540 and so far no complaints. It seems that I received exactly what I paid for. The PC runs great and seemed to lacking the hundreds of pre-installed garbage programs that you'd usually remove. I'm very impressed with the display. It's much clearer\crisper than I had anticipated. Anyone who's looking for a good PC that isn't too much money: but this one.

Externally it has a nice wood-grain/glass type of texture that is quite easy on the eyes. My only grudge is that I'm afraid to get it scuffed. There's is a light scratch on the casing even after I've handled it with care, but it's light and the laptop still looks great. In terms of specs, I i3 is sufficient for a lot of things -- I play Counter-Strike, use Netflix, surf the web, and do some word processing and this has done all the tasks flawlessly.

Exceeded expectations

I purchased this laptop for my son. After months of searching for one that would meet his needs (he loves to record audio, games, music, movies, ect.). After looking at several pricy models, I ran across this particular lap top and the reviews and specs were intriguing. My son has had this laptop for about 3 weeks and it over exceeds my expectations! It goes above and beyond his needs and I am actually jealous because it is way better than mine.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight

No windowz 8 drivers

I really loved my samsung r540 - just untill I upgraded to windows 8.
When I run my computer on battery, the screen is dimmed, and every fix found on the internet and settings DONT work.
Get in the battlefield samsung, and get your drivers updated! - I have been very satisfied with my samsung machine, and all my employees also have one. - But leaving us in the hot spot will not make me choose samsung in the future! -

Nominal laptop that works as described. Core i3 CPU reasonably fast. Sound is poor and weak. Should have shipped with USB3. Mousepad is in the way - thumb constantly causing unintended actions. Feels a little flemsy but working perfectly without special care for 2+ years now.
Support and updates from Samsung don't seem to exist. Overall - good value I'd say.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, reliable
Cons: mousepad poorly located, poor and weak sound, samsung updates and support, cover doesn't have latch
I would recommend this to a friend!
