Excellent Purchase

I have had my Vixia HF R600 for a month now and have been nothing but pleased. The features are amazing and the quality of the recordings are outstanding. Great battery life and you can also use the unit with the included charger in a wall outlet. The memory card that came with the camera is excellent quality and capacity.

good for beginner/ intermediate film maker

I have had this camera for a while, and it's great for home, or making short films. I'm using it for short videos. One of the only downsides, is that you have to use a powered microphone if you want to use the external mic input. I was disapointed, because that's one of main reasons I bought it, However the built in mic works great. You should use it on a tripod, or monopod though. Even though there's auto stabilization. The menu is intuitive, with some nice cinema filters. The zoom is amazing too.

Good buy for the money

Ive had this camera for about 3 or four years now and It has done a great job for short film making, misc. projects and really whatever I threw at it. I have a L bar mount with an external mic I use with it which works really well. The battery life is great and by bumping up the quality in the settings you can get really impressive quality. My only complaints is that the glare on the screen while in the sun is annoying, and that the 3/8 threaded female adapter to be put on a tripod is junk. Its made of plastic threads and wore out. I affixed a homemade steel threaded plate to the bottom to fix this. For an inexpensive camcorder I highly recommend.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Camera with great sound and picture

I am retired and my hobby is to video music concerts of volenteer bands and orchestras and make DVD's for the band members. I have two Canon cameras, a R50 and R600. Both give great sound and picture. These are great cameras and easy to use..

Not so good over what once was.

This is more directed to Canon. The mid level camcorders with the Pro-CMOS chips were fantastic. Then they were discontinued. The replacements don't cut it. The R series is poor, most don't have filter threads, this one did, but no aperture control setting is offered which is important for our particular work. Every new model over the years seems to provide less in hardware in some way. Bring back the Pro-CMOS chip in a mid-level line like the HF-M series.

Just got the camera and spent way too long to download transfer software and setting up my computer. Seems to me that this process should be made easier. A bit frustrating.

Screen glare

Just purchased and the first time I took it out in the sun the viewing screen became invisible. All I could see was my reflection on the screen. No matter how I tried to shade it I could not tell what I was recording. A real disappointing piece of junk.
