Good TV; poor information

The picture quality of our new tV is great, but we have had this TV since May and my exasperation with sound issues finally led me to do a live chat (which didn't solve the problem but at least led me to the section of the I Manuel which helped me solve my problem). SONY needs to create a much more user friendly manuel. I would never find the audio info (the word is not referenced in the hard copy manuel) without the direction of the online chat. I knew that our 10 year old Sony had audio options, and I couldn't believe that this TV did not. For over 40 users, you need to spend a bit more on paper and regardless, Sony needs to at least reference WHERE a person can control the audio settings. The problem for us was the factory set surround sound (which tended to drown out the dialogue on most programs). I am now happy with my TV, but that was after questioning the audio for three months.

Wonderful Picture

I believe this television has an outstanding "bang for the buck" quotient. It performs well, although not spectacularly, in every area that I care about. Yes, the sound could be better and the apps could load faster, but at the end of the day I bought this set for the picture. I really appreciate the fact that the screen is not mirror like. I have the set wall mounted in a bright room and it is very easy to watch. When it's off, the screen is unobtrusive even on very sunny days. I'm still discovering how to get the most out of the set and I know my experience will only get better. By the way, I wall mounted the set using the ProForma Gallery Wall Mount. It looks great!

Excellent TV

I recently purchased the KDL-50W800B after doing weeks worth of research on a new TV. There are better TV's out there, but they are literally double the price. This TV has an exceptional picture in bright rooms as well as dark rooms, has a simple to use Smart TV interface, and is razor thin. In my opinion the only features that are better on a more expensive TV are the speakers and 3D performance.

This TV coupled with the Sony sound bar and sub-woofer delivers the best home entertainment experience we have ever experienced. On top of that it's a "smart TV" expanding our viewing access way beyond the cable offerings and enabling us to view laptop, Kindle and Iphone videos, podcasts and live events. We couldn't be happier!

Great TV

I'm a long time Sony TV owner. I bought my first one in the early 70s. I bought this 50" to replace my previous 40" Sony that died a few months ago. The 40" was only 5 years old and I was really soured by the experience.
After doing significant internet research I was convinced I was going to buy a Samsung. However, once I went to see the Samsung, the sales person asked me if I had looked at the Sony -- it was his personal favorite. I told him my tale of woe with my 40" and he suggested I speak to someone at Sony. I did and I was offered a 15% discount on a new Sony if purchased directly from them.
I ended up purchasing this 50" only in part because of the price. This W800B is a beautiful TV to look at, even when it isn't on! Sony cleverly rounded the vertical sides of the TV so they seem to disappear, and the TV stand is about as classy as they come. But most importantly, the picture is great. I am not a gamer, but I watch a lot of sports and this TV excels when it comes to showing motion.
So stop researching and buy this TV -- I think you'll love it too.

I love this TV. Movies and PS3 games are all amazing on it. We use an HD antenna for local channels instead of cable and not only is the picture amazing, the onscreen guide and even better the Side View App have transformed our TV viewing experience.
We also bought the TV for it's smart features, primarily netflix and amazon prime, all of which work fine but the navigation response is slow, and it takes a few minutes for the TV to load apps right after it's turned on.
I also love the fact the the TV includes all of the hardware for wall mounting which we are going to do in the near future.
Can't comment on the audio quality since we use a home theater receiver.
The 3D is far from great unfortunately but still watchable. Off angle viewing is watchable but pretty saturated and lacking contrast. We have to physically rotate the TV 45 degrees when guests sit on our side couch. Wish Sony would at least offer the option to buy a swivel stand like Samsung (my old Hitach plasma has a power swivel base which is still the best).

Perfectly Met Our Needs

This 50" Sony W800B was the perfect size for our small den. We really didn't want one any larger than this. The quality of the picture is amazing compared to our old 32" XBR Sony from about eight years ago. So we are delighted with the purchase. The set needed no adjustment at all. The picture was perfect with the initial settings. The setup went smoothly as well. We paired this set with a new Sony sound bar and we have been delighted with the combination. I don't think that the 4k sets would have much advantage over this one.

So far so good

No flaws so far as I can tell very happy with this Sony. In some of the reviews I had read that golf balls rolled across the greens with great clarity. I can say that is a true statement. This is where I found the only flaw in the fact that golf balls being tracked in the air leave a trail and are not very clear. If I missed a setting this would be good to know. Other then that fantastic Television....
