One of the big selling points of this Blu-ray player is the fast startup and load, and Sony was not exaggerating!
Top features:
- Crazy quick startup. With the quick startup mode enabled (which uses a smidge more standby power but I think is well worth it), the Blu-ray player is on and ready to go practically before you've finished pressing the power button.
- Quick load times for Blu-ray discs.
- The high quality Blu-ray picture we've come to expect from Sony. Crisp and clean, I still maintain Sony always delivers the best quality Blu-ray picture.
- I love the design. Modern and sharp, and very compact!
The only opportunity with this Blu-ray was that I did have an initial issue with setup. While I think this was due to the power setup in my house, I had some powering on issues from a particular powerpoint. However, switched it to another and turned on the quick startup mode, and it has been performing perfectly in the original location. Was most likely me but in case you have a similar issue the solution is here. :)
Overall, I'm yet again impressed with the aesthetics and quality of the Sony brand. The quick startup is awesome and Blu-ray quality is perfection.
Pros: Quality, Design, Features
I would recommend this to a friend!

Upgrade from Sony BDP-S4100

Had this player for a couple of weeks now, aluminium build is better than on the previous model's plastic build. Played everything that i threw at it, MKV's, BD9, MP4, AVI , Jpeg, PNG, MP3 on BD and DVD and also just about every type of writable and rewritable disc possible.... even the ubiqutous DVD-RAM (which isn't mentioned in the specs of playable discs) not one hiccup at all. Quiter than the previous model, better colour and contrast control, DNR was quite good, and DVD's seemed to look better and 24P is a nice touch (no pausing due to layer change.. thanks onboard buffer). Possibly just me, but would prefer a timer count on the front of the unit. Setup was connected and done in about 5 mintues (even that is over estimating the time to "plug and play" Awaiting if Sony will release in Australia the BDP-S6200 that has 4K upscaling... hint hint Sony!!!! :-) Quartz design is okay. Few issue with LAN connection, had to manually set these myself as "AUTO" did not pick up the NAS unit connected to the home network, as previous models detected this quickly and easily
Pros: Ease of Use, Quality, Value for Money, Durability, Features

Hard to navigate the on/off button on top of the player. AC Adapter lasted 13 months. No warranty after 12 months.
Pros: Value for Money

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
