What happened to the indicators

I have had this phone for three days and am still attempting to adjust to it. My previous Droid was a Motorola. The biggest thing that is making me think about taking this phone back and going for a lesser model is the fact that there are no indicators to let the user know when a text message received, missed calls, voicemail, mail, etc. This is a huge deal for me. Sure, I found an app in the Market, but it hasn't really be too reliable with some of the activities (i.e. missed call). I wish Samsung would write its own app to amend this sorely missed feature.
The other con I found to this phone is a very, very poor battery life. I am not sure if this is typical of 4G phones or not, but my 3G Motorola held a good charge with much use of texting (over 100/day), email, browsing, and minimal talking (less than 1.5 hrs a day). I would charge that phone overnight and there would still be a charge 15-20 hrs later. This phone? I have to charge at least 2 or 3 times a day. Not very feasible if I am out somewhere and don't have a charger handy. Again, this is another reason why I am considering downgrading to a different brand.
Other than those two major issues (in my opinion), the phone is pretty nice. The screen is absolutely one of the best I have seen. The pictures are nice and for a person who takes pictures of self, the front camera is a great feature to have. The sound on the phone is great. One of the selling points for me was the actual keyboard in addition to the touchscreen. I am getting used to the Swype, but that is pretty good as well.
Fix the above two issues mentioned, and this would be a great phone.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: battery life, no led indicators
I would recommend this to a friend!

great design with slide-out keyboard

I have had this phone for 3 weeks now, having moved up from a blackberry. The slide out keyboard was a deciding factor for me as was the display. I looked at others, both in the store and on-line before choosing. I have not had any of the problems note by others and while I do agree visibility in direct sunlight isn't the best, I am still able to read as needed.
PRO
Battery life has not been an issue for me as i plug it in most every eveing.
Sound quality is good .
Slide out keyboard
Cons:
wish the keyboard remained lit longer
would like to be able to sync to my PC via USB
I am pleased with the design and have found it ieasy to use.
I would recommend to others
Pros: Realistic color
I would recommend this to a friend!

I never thought I would purchase something other than a Blackberry.
But I looked at the Samsung Stratospher and really enjoyed the features.
I adore the slide out keyboard since I have never been able to use a screen keyboard very well. However with the swype keyboard available with this phone, I am getting better.
I did choose the extended battery because I use my phone a lot. It gets me through a day and a half, which is amazing.
This phone is so easy to use, and that is why I have recommended this phone to family and friends.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color, Lightweight, easy to use

First phone on VZW with 4G & Keyboard
on November 21, 2011

This phone is the ONLY one on the VZW system that contains a physical keyboard. The keyboard has some good design features, such as, (1) dedicated numbers (0-9) row and (2) spacing between keys for big fingers. The overall performance is above average. Considering it's launch date was 10/13/11, it lacks the dual-core CPU so many other phones now have. It seems the accesory line is firming up with the ability to purchase external chargers and extended batteries, etc. A couple of cons would be (1) a weak (5MP) camera, (2) no LED message indicator, and (3) not a wide variety of choices for factory ringtones. Overall it looks to be a phone that will provide a long service life while providing a practical service with its above average keyboard. The keyboard design, while offering 4G LTE, is a niche that needed to be filled and I think this phone fulfills this need very nicely.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, physical keyboard, with dedicated numbers (0-9) row
Cons: camera weak only 5mp, no indicator led
I would recommend this to a friend!
