Overcomplicated Over-simplification for Oster

I was excited to try this new Oster food processor, but my excitement quickly turned into frustration. The food processor has so many moving parts it was confusing, and the instructions were not the clearest. The 2-in-1 feature really makes it two separate machines, rather than one multifunctional one. First up was the slicer/grater, which can only be used with a bowl attachment with a chute that ejects your veggies into your own bowl. Better hope it's a crescent shaped bowl to hug the shape of the food processor, or you'll find this design leaves a lot on the counter. I estimate 1/3 of the vegetables I sliced and grated ended up in my bowl, 1/3 on the counter, and 1/3 squished to the insides of the processor. Slicing works a little better than grating. And cheese didn't do much better, and caused a bigger mess inside the machine. Second, chopping requires an entire independent set up. Switch the slicing apparatus for a blade and cover (you can't use the 2-piece interlocking vegetable chute to chop) and chopping performs better. I did several types of meat with success, but from a functional standpoint, it was awkward. Where other food processors lock in then pulse when you push a button, this one engages by locking the bowl in place--no buttons to press. I found this off putting, as the act of gripping the smooth plastic lid and turning it into place started it up, leaving me questioning (or perhaps praying) for a brief moment if I had installed everything properly. All-in-all, this is an overly complicated over-simplification of a food processor.

Helpful in the Kitchen

I've been wanting something to make cutting vegetables quicker and this definitely "cuts" salad preparation time tremendously. After cleaning the unit and its attachments, the unit is ready to use following a few simple steps. The 2 in 1 salad prep gets 3 stars. It gets the job done on most vegetables with its attachments and is easy to clean which helps save you time in the kitchen.

Disappointed & overcomplicated.

I was sent this product to test and review. I was initially excited to try this product out. I bought a ton of vegetables ready to try this product out. I don't know if it was my first time ever using any kind food processor but I was extremely disappointed. First off, it was too difficult to put together. Second, I was under the impression the attachment bowls were going to be glass but instead felt they were a cheap plastic. So after I finally got it put together I started with what I thought would be something simple...an onion. I practically had to chop the thing up in order for it to fit it in the shoot to chop it up further. When locked the chopper in place there was absolutely no warning (on/off switch) just instant, full on power. It totally took me off guard. Onions spewed all over the counter. Some managed to make it into my bowl but because my bowl wasn't half moon shaped and nestled up against the processor my onion ended up everywhere. That's not the worst part, it didn't chop evenly. Some were slivers, some big chunks but mostly others were almost liquified as it was pureeing them instead of chopping. I spent more time cleaning and digging left over onion out of the processor that it would have been faster and easier to chop it by hand with a knife. My next attempt was not any better. I attempted to shred cheese. Again the processor shot it out so fast it over shot the bowl. Uneven shredding and worse of all it gummed some of it up and into the crevasses requiring a knife and at one point, a dental pick to get it all out of the processors small grooves. Again I felt I would have had better success with a hand held manually operated grater. I was afraid to try anymore food for fear of wasting valuable and expensive vegetables. I will continue to attempt different vegetables but only ones I've purchased on sale so I don't feel like I've wasted food.

I HAVE ONLY USED IT TO CHOP VEGGIES FOR SALADS

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I WAS REALLY EXCITED WHEN IT ARRIVED. I WAS FINALLY GOING TO HAVE BEAUTIFUL CUT VEGGIES FOR GREAT PRESENTATIONS WITHOUT ALL THE HARD WORK. DISAPOINTMENT!! IT CUTS THEM INTO IRREGULAR SHAPES. IT IS VERY QUICK. BUT NON UNIFORM CUTS. SO I WENT BACK TO DOING IT THE OLD WAY. MORE WORK FOR ME BUT LOOKS A LOT NICER. I HAVEN'T USED IT YET TO MAKE DRESSINGS OR SALSAS BUT THAT'S ON THE LIST. ALSO THE ON/OFF MECHANISM IS REALLY STIFF AND NOT HAVING AN ON/OFF SWITCH IS REALLY AN INCONVENIENCE DUE TO THE STIFFNESS.

I'd rather not die over cheese

For starters, this thing is loud. Super loud. Next, it has no buttons, it is turned on/off by the lid's locking tab sliding into a groove. Yup, plastic tab functions as both the power switch and safety mechanism, and you have to be able to hold the food pusher, try to catch at least some of the food flying out everywhere, AND be able to turn the lid in order to get it off.
Which brings me to tonight, I was shredding mozzarella. Followed instructions to a T as this was my first time using the shredding blade (which is scary looking on its own.)
We were going fine, and then POW!!! the locking tab broke. The lid flew off (remember my hand is right over this sucker gently pushing the cheese down the chute.) Remember how I said the locking tab is the on/off switch, yeah... it was still stuck in the slot. So we have this spinning death wheel still going, only now it's completely exposed. I pulled the plug, and fortunately my husband and I are all still whole.
Yeah. I'm not willing to die for shredded mozzarella.

Long story short: this is my second attempt at posting a review. Locking tab controls the on/off, there are no buttons. Was shredding mozzarella, having followed all instructions when the locking tab broke off, the lid flew off and the shredding blade was exposed and still spinning since the locking tab was still in the locked position. Unplugged the machine to stop it, thanking God the blade stayed where it was and didn't fly out.
Ill be surprised if this gets posted, as my last attempt was rejected.
