My grandson has always liked the rip stick. This is his second one and the wheels fell apart by the second month. They just crumbled. Not sure why the wheels on the first one lasted longer than this one. Won't waste my money again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After 11 years I found one of these online. The original sales pitch I remember for the Ripstik was that it would help teach you how to surf. It does, and it certainly helped me back in the day. This device is so much fun to ride. Revolutionary and more manueverable than a skateboard. However, there is no viable braking system. I recently crashed around 35mph. I can confirm these board can handle intense speeds, but there is no safe way to brake, and flying into the intersection was not an option for me. Thankfully I am mostly okay thanks to my own coordination and ability to bail.
I've taken to carrying a straight cane and dragging it along the asphalt to slow down, like some Mad Max Villiain flying down the road. They need to engineer some way to break. You can't just put the tip of your shoe off the edge of the board like a skateboard either. Simply isn't that safe to use. Still love it though.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Our 8 year loves it and I tested it out and it’s a great way to work on snowboarding skills.
