R2000-R1900 rplacement

My new R2000 is a replacement for my R1900. The R2000 is amazing. The new features are great. Love the additional paper sources. A great printer and value. This may be going overboard, but it also looks like a "high-end" machine. Actually the r200 was for my 80th birthday. If you are over 79, get one now.

R2000 uses a lot of ink

After using the Epson 1400 for many hundreds of prints, I thought I would treat myself to the newer R2000, especially after a nice $100 rebate off the price. Unfortunately, I'm terribly concerned about the ink consumption. I've only printed 4 - 8.5 x 11" prints, plus some miscellaneous printed pages, and already the cartridges are down 20%. After sitting for a couple of days, the printer seems to require a recharging of the printheads, which consumes quite a bit of ink. I need to research whether it is better to keep the printer off in between use or not (I just left the 1400 on and it did fine), since my cost per page is trending alarmingly high.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Painful at times!

One problem I have with this printer....it won't print if one of the inks needs replacement. I don't understand why I can't print in black if maybe the yellow ink was low. I've gotten caught too many times when I needed to print in a hurry. As a printer, it's average, but some of the colors are not true to what I've chosen...not deep enough.

Awesome Printer

I had a R1900 that had enough prints on it that I had to change the pads twice. I love the 13" wide format and when I heard of the R2000 I upgraded. I software was installed on my Mac and wife's PC laptop and another PC tower very easily. The print quality is outstanding on all paper types. The Wi-Fi feature solved a lot of problems in our household. It can also be plugged in with a cord.

R2000 almost complete setup instructions
on August 22, 2012

I had read several comments from other users that mentioned that the setup of this printer was tricky and every instruction should be followed carefully. While this sounds like common sense advice they had been stung by an assumption or two. I typically try to follow instructions carefully once rather than going back for a re-do and pick up the pieces.
The “Start Here” fold-out instructions in process three (3) provides instructions for loading the eight ink cartridges and in step 6 instructs the user to “. . . close the printer cover”. Then in step 7 the user is instructed that the printer begins to prime the ink delivery system.
A CAUTION and text warns the user not to do anything until the process is complete. I patiently waited for 20 minutes while nothing happened. After reading the manual, I learned the ink button might perform the desired function. It did. Too bad the instructions didn’t offer this instruction.
After this everything else went off without a hitch.
The printer yields beautiful prints that I’m proud to show.

I have been processing my own photo's now for at least 9 years. This is my 3rd printer. I started with the R1800, then went to the R1900. When it started giving me problems with banding (after 4 years of use), I brought the R2000. I just completed setting it up.
It took me longer to set up as I have a Mac 10.6.8. I control color management with a spider 3.
After following the initial set up instructions, I thought everything was fine, but the photo's were dark and missing colors.
I went into the Epson support web site and followed the manual instructions and was unable to turn off the R2000 printer controls so that photoshop could control the colors as recommended . I could see the screen while in photoshop but was unable to set the control as the item was grayed out. On the second call to Epson tech support, we found that the printer could be shut off in the Text Edit program since that was a Mac program.. Once that was done, the photoshop colors shined thru beautifully and I have had no further issues. The pictures are professional quality.
with the R1900 the photo's were darker and it seemed that I always had to brighten up the photo's before printing. They didn't appear to match the image on the computer even after calibration with the Spider 3. But with the R2000 I don't seem to have that problem and am happy to say that now I know that photoshop (CS5) is working properly and no adjustment is necessary. There is no longer an issue of brightening up the photo before print
After 2 days of fiddling with the controls and 2 calls to Epson support ( which was very helpful), I can now say that I am very happy with the R2000

Great printer, very happy with my 13 x 19 prints!

I bought the Epson R2000 to replace a competitive unit that I could not get to work reliably on my home office wireless network, and consequently have been able to compare high-resolution photographic prints produced by both printers. First impressions are that the Epson is considerably lighter than its primary competitor and requires a somewhat smaller amount of counter space (although both units are fairly large). Where the Epson excelled for me was in the ease of connecting to my home office network. It connected quickly and has maintained the connection for hundreds of prints. This is in complete contrast to the competitive unit, which I could never get to work reliably on my home network, even after contacting their technical support department (which is the primary reason I got rid of that printer and replaced it with the Epson R2000).
I’ve now printed about 200 photographic quality prints on the Epson and they continue to amaze me with their quality – comparable to a high-level photo lab. I’ve made scores of 13 x 19 prints and they look great, especially on fine art media provided by a certain German manufacturer (who, by the way, supplies ICC profiles that are very easy to use in Photoshop and enable one to produce superior results with this printer).
So, based on my initial two weeks’ use of this printer, I’m quite happy and very satisfied.
In terms of drawbacks, the R2000 gobbles “Gloss Optimizer” ink cartridges when making large prints at the printer’s high-quality settings; I’ve already gone through two of the GO cartridges and one cyan as well.

Love this printer

The set up was quick...I love this printer. The Gloss Optimizer adds a great deal to the print quality when going for lustrous prints. The colors are very vibrant.
Epson fine art papers also print beautifully and hold the deep rich blacks well...Once you get the knack of loading these papers, the results are very pleasing.
