The Broan QP430SS does a great job of both venting cooking odors and lighting up the cooktop. We are using it to vent over an induction cooktop.
A vent hood with Great (as opposed to adequate) lighting was just as much a priority for me as good, quiet ventilation. The Broan QP430SS has both.
The Broan QP430SS does a great job of venting cooking odors, grease, and steam (we do a lot of pan frying and also I cook a lot of soups in the winter). The fan has 3 levels plus a boost. The 2 lower levels are very quiet. High is quieter than the over the range microwave it replaced. Boost is a bit noisy, but typically Boost is only used for short durations.
The fan also has an auto-off feature. After pushing the timed-off button, the fan runs for 10 minutes then shuts down. A longer or shorter interval can be set after pushing the auto-off button; the pre-set time can also be changed if you always want a different interval
The 4 halogen lights do a great job of illuminating the cooktop. In choosing a vent hood for our kitchen remodel (which was driven by wanting a vent hood that vented better than the over the range microwave-vent combination we had) great lighting was more important to me than the auto-off. Luckily for us the Broan QP430SS has both great lighting and timed-off.
There are 3 levels of light plus a night-light. Standard setting is for the nightlight to come on automatically, but we've turned that feature off. (Nightlight was coming on when we felt there was still enough light not to need it -- it's nice that many of the pre-sets can be changed to suit your needs.)
There is also a minute timer. The pre-set is for 10 minutes. You use the + and - buttons to change the interval. The pre-set can also be changed if you want a different interval.
The 2 metal mesh filters can go in the dishwasher. This unit does not keep time of fan runtime nor does it alert you when it's time to clean the filters -- about the most negative thing I can say about the Broan QP430SS.
I didn't rate the Ease of installation because kitchen contractor installed the unit. I don't recall that they had any particular issues. This unit can vent to either rectangular or circular ducting.
The stainless steel is not "fingerprint proof" but it's not difficult to clean.
We also bought the matching stainless steel backsplash piece to have a nice-looking, easy-to-clean, grout-free backsplash behind the cooktop. Actual size was a fraction of an inch larger than the specs said, which caused the contractor a bit of a hassle; they had to get the stainless steel panel cut down.

Lighting a big problem....

Can the halogen light bulbs be replaced with LEDs? The halogen bulbs put out an extraordinary amount of heat. Very unhappy with this heat issue. If there is an LED replacement please provide the part number so I can buy it. Also, I have read if there is a power outage the the lights come on automatically. Since we are away from our house in the summer does this mean we have to unscrew all 4 light bulbs every time we leave? Please advise. Hope we don't have to have it uninstalled and returned...........

Thank you for your review on the QP430SS range hood. We recommend that you use only the type of bulb recommended for your range hood. Using a replacement LED bulb will not void the warranty; however we cannot guarantee the operation or life of the LED bulbs. Due to higher heat generated by cooking, the lifespan of the bulb could be greatly shortened. Improper controls for the LED bulb can also cause flickering on low light settings or even no light at all. Sometimes the LED replacement may not shut off, staying on at a very low level even when the light switch is off.
The original control boards were factory set so the ambient lights would be on. You would have to manually change this setting on your hood. Hoods manufactured after January 2015 will now have the ambient lights set to off. If you lose power to a hood manufactured before January 2015, it would result in the ambient lights resetting back to the on setting. This would turn the ambient lighting on when the room gets dark. If your hood was manufactured after January 2015, this feature is now set to off so the ambient lighting would not turn on after a power outage.

Marginal Consideration

I am sorry to say that I am disappointed with this unit. It has a built in heat sensor that throws the unit in high exhaust cycle at a prolonged length of time and quite annoying in sound to be honest. There is NO way of bypassing this feature and for that I am disappointed with this item.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Overall an excellent product, there is a learning curve for the lights and clock. Fan noise is good on low and medium, high is acceptable. If using high you need to crack a window to provide air.

This range hood does a good job. Our only complaint is that the control panel can be confusing to use, in particular the light function. The light buttons have to pressed in different sequences in order to change the settings. The directions in the manual are also hard to decipher regarding this issue. A more user-friendly/simpler set of controls would have been nice, IMO. Otherwise it's a good quality range that sucks up most of the aromas.

In today's world so many things never preform as advertised. Not this Broan vent hood . . . . . it is fantastic! Love the lighting, the low sound level and programming options. Especially like the auto off after done cooking that keeps venting for you after cooking but you don't have to get up later and turn off yourself. Don't hesitate purchasing if this hood has the features you are looking for.

Annoying programming.

Just because a manufacturer can include all the features of a $5 watch, doesn't mean it should. Ours is a vacation home, which means it get used by many different friends & family. It's not possible to set and lock the features. Press the wrong button and it starts a timer that can't be stopped. Don't want the night light? Tough, I bet you can't figure out how to turn it off without getting out the manual everytime. Even just turning off the light or fan can stump most cooks (press & HOLD the on button)
Great, quite exhaust fan, but annoying to point of comical.

Beware: it has a single blower

I cook heavily, with lots of smoke and grease. Even the turbo mode could not efficiently suck out all the cooking smoke. It is a good hood if you cook lightly. If you are a steak lover and like to use pan sear method, then look for something stronger.
