Terrible waste of our hard earned money. This unit did not operate properly from the beginning. Nothing can be place on the top shelf without the auto-defrost and light thawing the food out causing it to spoil. Great waste of money. Where is the repairman? We have lost money due to spoiled food. Where's the repairman? Also, though rated as 16 cu. ft., it holds less than the 11 cu. ft. model Westinghouse it replaced. Too bad we gave the old unit away.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

One of the best features... Reversible Door

You never like to lose an appliance that has given it's life but that time occurs. Approaching Senior Citizen age and being an "empty nester", moving from a chest freezer to an upright one was a great move. No more trying to figure out the easiest way to get to the bottom of the chest. I had the door mounted on the side I needed and I now can easily load and remove my frozen commodities.

Great upright freezer

Several months ago our upright freezer quit working, it wasn't a Whirlpool. Compressor quit on that one, repairman wasn't available for 3 days and it was only two years old, warranty would only give us 25% of purchase price. So we went to the local independent dealer and looked at several brands and models, decided on this Whirlpool. Very glad we did. Long warranty, esteemed brand name, local service we've known for years. Should have bought it from them two years ago instead of from the chain. This freezer has a large easy-to-use drawer, shelves where they need to be, it's quiet and keeps things at about zero, and doesn't leak anything. Doesn't use much electricity either. The compressor is a much better one that the other brand's, I read the specs on both. If you need an upright freezer, this is the one to get. Whirlpool!
