This is a solid phone. It is timely updated to the latest Android version and has a clean and sleek interface. I have the black color version, so when you see it you know it means business. The CPU and camera is at or above the levels of the smartphones on the market right now. It also has radio, accurate location through GPS and GLONASS, 20.7MP camera, 4K video recording and waterproofing. That being said, it is sad seeing how every new software update takes one more feature from this great phone. The most notable are the 20.7MP camera mode with 16:9 ratio and the excellent sound using a DAC through USB. Both of them went and never came back. Also, the lack of firmware upgrades for the 20.7MP mode as to match the options offered in the 8MP mode, is a sore disappointment after each software update. This is not to say that the Z3 compact is not an excellent phone. I would still buy it, since it remains the best option for those who prefer a phone that fits in one's pocket and doesn't need a purse just to hold it.
The Z3 Compact has one (huge) failing - which is that the magnetic charging port is not securely attached to the body and WILL detach with use. Mine detached after just 2 months. This is a common problem with the Xperia Zx line as described on the internet. The only way to avoid it is not to use the magnetic charger at all. Other than that, it's a great phone - good battery life, great screen, blazing fast, no lag, multitask apps with ease, good speaker...etc.
With the trend toward tablet-sized phones, there are fewer and fewer small phones to choose in the market place. I had a hard time finding a phone that I could hold and operate one handed. The Xperia Z3 Compact was a good choice. While it isn't really compact, I would call it normal size, good for one handed operation. But, I guess where everyone wants sizable screens, the 4.6" screen must seem "compact". Great battery-life! I usually go nearly 2-days between charges. Amazing camera, too. Takes great pictures even in low-light conditions.
If yr sick of gigantic smart phones like I've been, this is the Android phone for you. Amazing battery life, zippy performance, brilliant screen. I don't use the camera much but am told the photos are great. I do listen to music and the Sony sound dynamics are great, clear sharp with depth and staging. Solid premium build in a handy size. Love this phone.
I'm glad someone made a modern smartphone that isn't the size of a baking tray. My only complaint is that the native messaging app does not support group messaging, but there are probably other apps that can handle this. Very happy with my purchase.
I was sick of Apple, and looking for a small phone that did a lot. This phone is great. The audio recording is excellent. The software is fast. It works well. I'd highly recommend it, save for a few quibbles.
My quibbles: - The phone is VERY slick. You must have a case. I set it on a table that had a slight tilt and it slid off. - The screen is slightly less responsive than an iPhone's - When I'm answering a call and have a bluetooth headset connected, but use the phone's slider, I'd expect it to answer on the phone (like an iPhone) rather than on the headset. I often forget where the headset is, and have to figure out why I can't hear anyone talking.
The Z3 Compact is a great phone, however without me being rough or dropping it, there has been a crack in the glass on the back, twice. Not only visually less attractive and annoying for the hands, it also affects the waterproof characteristic of the phone. And this was one of the main reasons why I bought it. Luckily I noticed both cracks in time and no harm was yet done, though I was expecting a more robust and higher quality. The customer care though was excellent, being very helpful and very pleasant to work with and replaced the back of the phone under warranty. At this moment the phone is send back for the second time and I haven't heard anything yet. And although customer care is great, I am forced to use my old and slow phone again, and will have to adjust the Z3 again when I get it back. Of course no world shocking problems, but it does affect the quality feeling of the phone. The phone itself is undoubtedly a high-end phone and can easily be compared with the best phones on the market now. Also the size of it is just perfect and makes it easy to operate. Also I have never wished for a bigger screen. Its fast and everything works smoothly and can be adjusted to everybody's desire. And last, but not least its a beauty (without the crack though) and I have had several compliments from people whom didn't know what kind of phone it was. So to summarise, it is the perfect phone for me, however the build quality is the question and withholds me from recommend it to others.
