From a hardware standpoint, this is a fantastic device providing you follow one basic measure:
Invest in a protective case. I read so much about people dropping their Z3C and didn't want to deal with anything beyond normal wear and tear throughout the 2+ years I tend to use my smartphones.
From a software perspective, I come from a Nexus 4 and have been spoiled with pure Android. However, Sony exercised some restraint with their Xperia line, which is much appreciated. Aside from a few unneeded apps that I can't uninstall, it is a clean skin and quite responsive too.
Now, I understand Sony may have been a little premature in pushing out the Lollipop update to us, so I've stuck with Kitkat which is as rock solid as you can expect a Google OS to be, barring a few occasional niggles. I'd advise anyone purchasing this phone to NOT update to Lollipop for at least another year. I made the mistake of doing a day one upgrade to 5.0 on my Nexus 4, and regretted it immediately. Kitkat has more than enough capability for me, and I understand the battery life is particularly strained by the upgrade; another reason to stick with 4.4.
Speaking of the battery, it's not a two day battery for me, but it's at least twice the battery my Nexus 4 had. I can get through an entire day of medium to heavy use, and that makes me more than happy with the purchase. The camera is a definite step in the right direction, too.
This is a review of Xperia Z3 compact. If you can live with a 4.6-inch screen, this is by far the best phone on the market. It has very attractive external form factors, not too small and not too big, very easy to grip and carry. Comes with long-lasting battery, longer than any other battery except for the new Motorola droid phone. Fast processor with SD card slot so you won't get robbed for paying for additional storage for phone without SD card. With the exception of Apple iPhone, it carries the most LTE/4G and 3G frequencies which comes in handy for those traveling worldwide. Good audio quality and excellent screen resolution. I've owned it for over 7 months and it is the best phone I've owned ever.
Screen size, processor speed, resolution are all top notch OR what you'd typically expect from XPERIA device. Water and dust proofing are additional bonuses that none of the other phones can get even close. Additionally, the color selection and US LTE bands availability makes this phone an undisputed winner in my eyes.
Great phone but not perfect. They didn't use the same glass on front and back, so the back gets all scratched up. Screen is still a bit large for complete 1-handed operation, but better than other phones.
I've been thinking about getting this phone for months. Even though no carrier has it, I keep reading review after review talking about how strangely great the phone is, so I figured I would try it.
Basically I'm incredibly impressed with it. It's really fast, has crazy battery life for s smartphone... and important to me, it's compact.
In the end, I'm glad I waited until now to buy it, the interface is better with Lollipop. So much better, I like many aspects of it better than Nexus (with stock android) that I just got rid of.
A great phone that isn't large is pretty hard to find - most smaller phones sacrifice features/performance. I like smaller phones, but still want good battery life, a good camera, performance, etc. So the Z3C fits that perfectly for me. Also, can't say enough about the phone being waterproof - shooting video underwater is really cool. My only qualm is it doesn't have WiFi calling, which hurts with the poor reception in my apartment.
This phone is the perfect size for me. I enjoy every aspect of it except for a couple things that bother me. The automatic setting on the camera is awful. I have to use manual to get good pictures. Also, my screen has gone blank 4 times and required a hard restart to get the screen back on. I tried calling customer service to get a replacement, but they weren't any help. They said it wouldn't even be guaranteed that I'd get one and it would also take at least 3 weeks to figure out the issue. They also wouldn't give me a loaner to tide me over for the three weeks my phone, that I spent over 530 dollars for, would be out of my hands.
