Best printer choice we ever made

OK, so nothing is absolutely perfect, but this printer and its software install and perform so much better than our previous printers, which were mostly HP. As someone has already mentioned, the wireless setup could be a little clearer, but it took less than an hour including coffee and cigarette time, so yeah. Ever since, printing and networking have been flawless. Only thing that would make it better is auto duplexing, but I chose not to pay for that, so I'm happy with what we've got! Further, the software doesn't drag down boot-up time like the HP stuff. Next time I need a printer, it will be a Brother.

Has some problems

This printer makes a lot of grinding noise when the paper tray gets 1/2 full. It has problems finding the paper. I get messages telling me that the paper try is empty. I have to keep the paper tray full for the machine to work properly.

Worst Setup Ever

Everything arrived in a timely fashion, no missing parts and no signs of damage. However, in my experience it all goes downhill from here. I've installed hundreds of devices over the past several years at my job but this printer has given me the most headaches. First off, the disc that comes with it doesn't get it going. The only success I had was using HP's printer configuration program which got it working wirelessly for one job. I had extremely high hopes for this printer, yet was very disappointed with it's performance. Particularly;
Can't set printing defaults Can't connect wirelessly Doesn't work well with Belkin N600 DB Wireless N+ router Doesn't work well with Windows 8
It really sucks because 90% of the Amazon reviews for the Brother HL2280DW are VERY positive and this thing has got me thinking I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I'd heavily researched this printer as well as a couple others, very disappointed that I made a bad purchase.

Dependable Wireless Printer/Scanner/Copier
on August 28, 2014

I bought my Brother HL-2280DW in October, 2011 and it has been a very dependable printer/scanner/copier. It is set up wirelessly and the couple of times over the years where the settings mysteriously disappeared I was always able to get it working again. Called Brother Support once when I was clueless and the tech quickly figured out what needed to be done - turns out Verizon had upgraded the security of its wireless modem and the unit needed to be remapped and the new password entered.
I highly recommend this printer also for its moderate toner usage. All-in-all I would buy this printer again.

It was good to get away from the big HP

From un-pack to power-up to first printing this Brother HL-2289DW has been a fun printer to own. I have purchased 4 printers over the past 5 years, started with one PC, now have 3. All of the other printer purchaseses had their points in the process that halted me from completion of the install. This Brother did not, I did not find it neccessary to call for help.

Nice unit

I've always used HP printers. This Brother is a nice, welcome change up for me. Consumer reports recommended it and it has low cost per page printing-- one of my main screening criteria. This printer was easy to setup, except for the fact that it's the first printer I've ever bought that didn't have a USB cord. I had to wait another day to use it until I could get a cord bought. Other than that, I am very happy with the features and performance of this printer.

Setup was a breeze. Works flawlessly. I use a laptop and a tablet running Android. It prints from both! I highly recommend it.

Great Printer, But . . .
on April 15, 2012

Overall, I am very happy with this printer. My color inkjet is slow and expensive to operate so it's great to have a much lower cost and faster laser printer that can be obtained at a reasonable purchase price online.
The one limitation is that there is no direct support for iPad printing. Also, I do not have a Mac that can be used as an intermediary device.
Come on Brother, when are you going to support iPads?
