This is my second Brother. The first one lasted for years and years. I only gave it up because it was no longer compatible with my new PC. A friend is now using it with his PC which is a little older than my new one. I hope this new one will service me as long.

Not a happy customer

I used the cartridge that came with the printer with no problems. I bought the new Brother cartridge with extra capacity and started getting the "Toner Low' message after 400 pages and keep getting the message all the time. This is very agrevating and this being my first Brother printer I am very unhappy with it and would not recommend a Brother product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very Good Printer

The last couple of printers I've had were color ink-jets. The cartridges would constantly dry out. The advantage of laser printers is that you don't have to worry about the ink-toners drying out since they consist of powder. I've had my printer 3 months and still have the original starter toner that came with the printer. This is an excellent printer if you don't need color. Laser printers cost more up front, but you'll save much more on the long haul by not having to continuously replace the cartridges.

Workhorse Printer

I bought this printer to replace an Ink Jet that was killing me with ink costs. Mostly needed black and white so got this Laser printer. It is great! My daughter used it for all of her class work at college (multiple term papers) and the ink lasts a long time. We have a back up ink jet for any color needs but doesn't get a lot of use now. Great purchase!

I love the HL-2280 and have it on the 4 season porch. I don't have to go to the basement to print and the duplex is specially nice to save paper. I sing barbershop and can print new music from my recliner.

I've always owned Brother laser printers and thought this seemed to be a good value so I bought it. Big mistake:
- it was really noisy -- much noisier than my old HL 5140
- it had a terrible paper delivery area -- I want a slide out tray, not a place where I had to put my hand halfway into the machine to get the printed paper.
- it sure was heavy which surprised me
Very disappointing purchase
