Easy Install

This unit is very easy to install, runs quietly, looks good, and the 5 year warranty is great. The remote controller is cool…pun intended. I do have a couple peeves...The filter access panel hinges down below the bottom edge of the front grill, and jambs on the window sill. Most window units are mounted so the bottom sits on the sill. It should be hinged so it does not travel downward. Also…the manufacturer no longer furnishes a protective grill for the exposed aluminum fins outside even though the exterior housing has mounting slots for one. This leaves the condenser unit vulnerable to damage.
Pros: 5 year warranty

Not Easy to Install

I just installed this air conditioner and I am not impressed with the Owner's Manual installation instructions. The wording is confusing and the illustrations are too few/too small.
There are basic quality issues as well. I had to rework the mounting brackets to enlarge the slot so the carriage botls would fit. The front grille was difficult to install because the tabs are too small to fit the mating slot in the housing. Lastly, there is nothing to support the control panel so it does not align with the opening in the grille; it sits crooked. The fan speed on the remote cycles throught the 3 speeds instead of enabling the user to select up or down.
Overall, I am not impressed with LG. This is my first, and probably last, experience with LG.

Expected better quality parts

Resented having to remove the unit from the cabinet to install in the window. The cabinet is too easily bent, causing problems later on in the installation. The carriage bolts wouldn't fit in the slots in the brackets. The lock nuts were just cheap stamped metal imitations. There were too many type B screws for the job, and not enough type A screws. The tabs on the front grill break off too easy while attempting to attach the grill to the cabinet, necessitating having to find more screws to mount the grill. I guess they were expecting this, which is why they made holes for screws, just no screws to put in them. The control panel is shabbily mounted and won't stay straight. The power cord could have used another foot of length.
Seems to cool good, and it's quiet compared to some other brands I've tried.

try it before you install

Don't buy this model. The 15000BTU "LW1511ER" Monster, does not cool as well as the cheapest little 5000 btu's I've owned in the past. It tries, but it just can't cool my 10'X15' room.
Pros: don't buy!

Poorest set of directions I have seen for acs.
No directions about WHERE to put supports
No directions for installing drain pipe
Lock nuts are very poor as bolts are too short for this type of nut
Once inatalled unit worked very well

wish it was made better

so on a positive note, I bought the 15,000 btu unit and It does cool my living room and kitchen and some of my hallway. It definintely cools the rooms. Job well done! The energy saver feature is nice to help save money. However, on the not so positive note, the unit was very poorly made. When you screw in the side panels it is very hard to see where the holes are since it is facing behind you. You would have to be in front of one to understand. Also the 4 little clips that hold the front piece to the unit itself are very flimsy and within minutes 3 of them broke off. So unfortunately my brand new unit looks like a piece of "junk" since I had to duct tape the cover to the unit. I mean I tried calling the store where I bought it and they said I would have to call the company. they, the store, couldnt help me. The instructions could have been a little clearer, esp on how to use the timer... Lastly, the side panels slide into a metal opening on top of the unit to keep them sturdy and in place; however, there is nothing holding them in place on the bottom

Poor front attachment
on July 5, 2011

All good until I tried to install the front. The two tabs on top quickly broke off, and the right side tab wouldn't engage the slot. The front should not be designed to be attached by snapping. The front should be secure, yet removable without breakage for moving, cleaning and maintenance. There are three locations for screws to hold the front onto the unit, but only one screw supplied. It needs more structurally-sound screw locations. Also, the control panel is crooked with respect to the opening in the front panel, which gives the impression of poor quality. And, the grille door that opens on hinges to access the filter interferes with the cord, so it distorts and stresses the front when opened. I replaced the broken tabs with bent steel hooks, glued to the inside of the front with epoxy, and found two more screws so I could use all the locations. This made a marginally-satisfactory assembly.
Pros: easy to use

Best Purchase I Could Have Made

I was looking for a single window air conditioner that would cool my entire house (a little over 700 square feet), found this one searching online and decided to purchase it. This air conditioner has outperformed my expectations. It cools the entire house great. It is nice to only have one AC running instead of two. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to cool a large room or even a small house like myself.
