Lumia 1520 - The perfect size for executives on the move

I have owned a Lumia1520 for nearly two years. It fits neatly into my right trouser pocket and neatly in my left hand. Alternatively, it will sit on the desk and is large enough to permit two handed typing. Using One Drive it matches pieces started on my laptop which I can add too whilst on the move. The Calendar is the right size to see the whole entry. People contacts match those on my laptop. The main disappointment is Microsoft's cloud arrangements that keep truncating contact notes. I have lost dozens of notes on past deals. Thank heavens for Akrutosync which runs off a USB and preserves everything no matter how extensive the data. Once you have experienced explaining something to a client and can whip out the photos which are just the right size on the 6" display you can never go back to those keyhole phone sizes. Hopefully, the next version of Lumia1520 will include some way of rearranging photos into albums on the phone. Otherwise, I am waiting for the upgrade of the 1520 which is long overdue.

Pleasantly surprised - superb display

I wanted a phone I could see and use outside and this display is absolutely superb, exceeds my expectations and far ahead of anything else including I phone 6+ and Samsung 5. Very easy to get used to the OS, like the live tiles and the ability to change and shape my start screen. Seldom have to charge the battery sooner than every other day. Easy to use with my desktop to move pictures, music and other stuff around. Cortina better than Siri which I have on my iPad air Agree with other numerous ratings that complain about number of apps but have found all I needed so far including a golf GPS that was free, didn't use much data, didn't drain my battery and was VISIBLE on the course in sunlight. Haven't even used the camera yet and it's supposed to be the best feature! Long live lumia and windows OS from a former android and current iPad user!

Nokia Lumia 1520 is the Best Windows Tablet Available
on March 31, 2015

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is the best Windows tablet available. No question about it. Hands down. Period. You might be saying to yourself, “Wait, the Lumia 1520 isn’t a tablet…” and you’re right, it isn’t. It’s actually a phablet (large smartphone). Even though it’s sold as a smartphone, here are my reasons why you should consider it as a Windows tablet. And why it’s a really good one too.
The 6″ Display – It’s big. Big enough to do everything you would want a 7″ or 10″ tablet to do. Browsing the internet? Yup. Music and Videos? Yup. Games? Yup. Photo editing, Microsoft Office and remote desktop? No problem. The 6″ display can do it all. Whether you’re indoors or outdoors.
The Hardware – The specs on this bad boy are good enough for you to do all of the activities I mentioned above. It’ll do it without any lag too. Windows Phone doesn’t take a whole lot of processing power to do it’s job. And it won’t suck your battery dry like it will on Android. Nokia’s hardware design is in a league by itself. It always has been. Not to mention it’s a beautiful piece of polycarbonate plastic. You’ll want to rock this bad boy without any protection (case) just to show it off. Add in cellular connectivity and what you have is the most portable connected tablet you can find on the market today.
The Camera – No tablet can compete with the camera hardware that’s built into the Lumia 1520. You get great low light shots, a purview experience and videos that are good enough to film your life. Add in the fact that the upcoming Denim update will bring Rich Capture (HDR), 4K video recording and faster shot to shot time makes it future proof for quite some time.
Microsoft Apps – Microsoft Office, One Note, One Drive and Remote Desktop. These apps are the staples in the Microsoft kingdom. If you’re buying a Windows tablet to begin with it’s because you either need or want Microsoft apps on the go. Microsoft Office does it’s job thanks to the great keyboard real estate you get with such a big display. One Note also benefits from the huge display by making it more productive to use on the go. One Drive is the biggie here. Microsoft is just giving away it’s storage. You can get up to 500gb of free storage if you know what you’re doing. One Drive is the best cloud service I’ve experienced. Better than Google Drive. Better than iCloud Drive. Better than Dropbox. If you don’t know about it, “you better ask somebody!” Another big plus is Remote Desktop which works surprisingly well. Even with no keyboard or mouse attached. Microsoft gets a thumbs up big time here!
Traditional Windows Tablets – The Surface Pro line are considered tablets. And there other Windows tablets from Dell, Lenovo and Sony. But if you’re rocking it with full fledged Windows on it, those devices should be considered as laptop replacements and not tablets. Those are personal computers in a tablet form. Microsoft definitely made a mistake with Windows RT. Which confused everybody. But at least they’re correcting it by killing that version off. Windows Phone is really Microsoft’s mobile/tablet operating system. This will all be cleared up for everyone with the release and implementation of Windows 10.
Lumia1520-Top
Simply put, my Lumia 1520 is my Windows tablet. It just so happens it can make phone calls when I need it to. I feel like the Lumia 1520 was ahead of it’s time when it was released last year. But after a year in, It’s legit.

My Lumia 1520 is truly the best phone I have ever had and if you are on the fence about Windows phones you definitely need to demo it. Sleek, responsive, and big enough to not get lost in my hand..... Oh, did I mention I don't need to charge my 1520 daily? The battery is extremely effective with an average of almost days before needing a charge!
Pros: Personal, social media, keep up with my youtube audience

Pros Amazing screen Still buttery smooth even on windows 10 Great battery life Glance screen is so cool Camera beats my iPhone 6 plus and one plus two
Cons App selection. In particular, apps for the windows phones don't seem fully baked. For example, the amazon kindle app will not let you highlight which is very disappointing. In fairness this complaint applies to windows phones in general.

Windows phone beast

For a very long time I thought I hated smartphones. I had gone from one to another in the android ecosystem and found the experience overall lackluster and didn't see why people loved phones and apps and mobile everything so much. But then it all clicked with me when I got this phone, it was my eureka moment.
This 1520 was the first proper Flagship phone I've ever had. It was big in every sense of the word. Big battery, big processor, big screen, big camera, big everything. And that made it stand out, on the spec sheet when I was doing research, and at work when I showed it off for the first time. People just didn't realize something so striking and big and 'out there' had been on the market.
It's not just that things on it are big, they're good... really good, and in ways you don't think of when looking at a webpage. For instance, this didn't have an amoled screen or an OLED or super amoled. The screen on this device is an IPS panel, what they use in really nice PC monitors. That doesn't translate to a spec sheet very well but bear with me. IPS displays have a number of advantages, most notably is view-ability, amoled looks good in best buy or store lighting, but IPS looks good everywhere and from all angles, even oblique viewing is undistorted. Or the speaker, which is loud enough to really fill a room with sound. Or the 4 microphones, on each corner that means calls on an awkwardly large phone are never garbled because you can't figure out how to hold it. Everything about this device is beastly and huge, and that gives it personality, big and bombastic personality that you don't easily forget.
It's not all sunshine and gumdrops however. The upgrade to Windows Phone 10 was... troubled, for this device. It was never officially supported and even today needs to be using an 'insider' app to upgrade. And for good reason. When I upgraded it broke the Cortana app. Turns out there was a problem with the language pack that required a language pack reinstall to allow me to train Cortana for 'Hey Cortana' to work. Other problems persist as well; double tap to wake, will eventually cause the device to hang on log in and get stuck at a 'resuming' screen. Some other jump links will cause this as well, and can't be avoided by disabling the double tap feature.
Overall though, I enjoyed my 1520. So much so that I don't actually know when I'll really replace it. It's such a good example of good design, careful thought and bold advancement Microsoft or Nokia still haven't really outdone it. Hopefully a worthy successor will come along soon.
