I purchased this model about 10 years ago, I live in MN and have hot water heat, it gets so dry in the winter months due to the cold. The L45 unit is in the common spaces. I loved it so much I purchased a smaller one L25 for our bedroom. I know when they need to go out in the fall as soon as I start waking up with a dry nose. It really does clean the air since there is debris in the unit everyday when I refill. I love that there are really no bells and whistles to break or to constantly be purchasing (ie filters). I also appreciate that you cannot over humidify the house which can cause health issues. During the coldest part of the winter I refill both everyday. Worth every penny.

It’s awesome, I love the modifications from the model I had before which was at least 15-20 years old. You can totally remove the fan making cleaning a breeze. The parts are lighter and I hope they have the same longevity as the older version. Keeping the upper housing clean is important to keeping the fan itself from getting dirty. Keeping the machine clean also humidifies the air better. I love it. It was shipped a day after ordering and it arrived two days later. I do live in Illinois where the North American office is located.

I am thrilled to have discovered the LW45 Original Humidifier - Black. In fact I have purchased a second one. I did this ensure that I would be able to maintain at least 40% RH in my studio.
This humidifier is a standout in that it can be refilled with tap water. As it requires 2 gallons daily I cannot imagine having to provide distilled water in that quantity. Its extra price is well worth it. It is quiet at its highest setting, and it is very attractive to view. The best! Thank you Wirecutter for including this as part of your research and recommendations for humidifiers.

This is my second LW 45. The first one lasted 30 years and ran 24/7, 4 months out of the year. I've always been impressed with the quality and performance of Venta. There's not another humidifier/air washer in the same league, in my opinion.

This is my second LW45. I still operate my first one, but I needed a second one for my bedroom. It's quiet enough that I can sleep and the extra humidity prevents my nasal passages drying out and the problems that can cause.

It performs poorly even in a small room; the full tank has still not been evaporated over the course of a week at 29% humidity and a temperature of 22 °C. The water is purified by reverse osmosis.
