Happy with this model. Installation was easy (including transferring the ice maker from an older GE model we had used since 1993).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Perfect Size for Basement Refrigerator
on April 19, 2016

This unit is used as an overflow basement refrigerator. It is the perfect size and it operates well! We had purchased another refrigerator from another company and the freezer would not get cold enough to freeze ice cream or frozen orange juice concentrate, even when it was set at its coldest setting. After several service calls and being told that this is the way that unit is supposed to operate, we called it quits on that company and the unit. We felt we should be able to freeze ice cream, so we exchanged it for the GE - GTE18ITHWW unit. This unit was a comparable model to the one we returned with regard to size and function. All we can say is that we are very satisfied with our GE purchases. This GE refrigerator is set to the recommended setting and we have placed thermometers in both compartments to monitor the temp and it holds the temperature where it is supposed to. It is great to have solid ice cream again! The size of the freezer is larger than what we had before, which is what we utilize the most. We love the adjustable shelves in the refrigerator. It allows us to put unusual shaped products inside with great ease. I.e., Bulk size apple juice containers that are taller than most containers can be placed on a shelf adjusted specifically for the height of that item and the other side can be adjusted to a different height for shorter items. This allows for better space utilization. Overall we are very pleased with this unit and would be happy to buy GE again! Thank you, GE for such a reliable product!

Nice refrigerator for a small space
on September 13, 2017

Have had for about 2 months now and have finally gotten used to it. I needed a small refrigerator to fit in the space I had. My 33 year old previous refrigerator was small and quite efficient. This GE has taken a little time to figure out how to arrange the shelves and what accessories might be useful to help keep things organized. I like the 2 drawers in the bottom - they are very convenient. I like the adjustable shelves and the 3rd drawer that can be adjusted. There are a lot of shelves in the door that are very useful but some that seem a little awkward since i don't buy gallon jugs of milk. The freezer is very large, but not very user friendly since you end up having to stack things on top of each other. This doesn't work very well with frozen vegetables and other items. I've since purchased a couple of wire baskets to hold these items and am happy with the freezer. I did not want an ice cube maker so that is a good feature of the freezer, but there's no small rack to hold ice cube trays. This is a little inconvenient as they must be just laid in the freezer with everything else. Again, there are devices that help me manage this inconvenience.
I haven't quite gotten used to the noise from the refrigerator. It sounds almost like water is running somewhere in the house. It's not an obnoxious noise, but it is definitely obvious. I know energy efficient motors tend to run more frequently, it's just a little weird.
All in all I'm pleased with the refrigerator. The little extra things I've bought to make it more convenient were not expensive, so I don't consider that to be a problem. We've kept a thermometer in both the freezer and the refrigerator sections and have found that the temperature is as it should be. Oh yes, this refrigerator is made in the USA.

Energy Savings a Must
on January 8, 2018

I live off-grid (off the electric grid power) and I use a batteries and solar panel arrays to provide power. Being energy conscious is a number one priority on a battery supplied power system. The previous 23 year old fridge cycled often, and cooled poorly. So, I replaced that old energy hog dinosaur with a new GTE18ITHWW in September of 2016.
The new fridge has performed for me very well over the past 16 months. I love the interior lighting as well as the adjustable glass shelving and layout. I appreciate the 2 temperature control systems, one for the freezer and one for the fridge. This has allowed me to tweak the interior temperatures for best energy performance. The adjustable door swing is a plus as I needed to set it to a left hand swing.
I like the stepped storage rack in the freezer. I didn't get an ice maker as the hard water from the well can be problematic even when supported with the water softener.
I have not had any problem with compressor noise. The electrics on the refrigerator have not had any problems to date with use of the DC/AC power inverters.
This refrigerator is very energy efficient, and I am glad that I invested in the upgrade.
