This was a replacement fridge through my appliance warranty. They no longer had the color of my original fridge, so I chose the color black. I am thrilled this product was available in black.

Nice 30" refrigerator, but noisier than I expected

Received this refrigerator a few days ago to replace a 30" wide, bottom freezer GE refrigerator (shallow depth - 25" without doors) which is no longer manufactured. While this top mount is deeper (28.3" deep without doors), it fit through a 29.5" door opening without issue (with doors removed).
Overall this is a good 30" refrigerator for a secondary kitchen, but it is much noisier then the one I replaced, and much noisier than a GE Artica 36" Cabinet depth I have in the primary kitchen.
I wish GE made a Profile version of this standard 30" refrigerator for $200 more with noise reduction padding, premium lighting, and better shelves. The interior shelves are cheaper construction (both glass and wire ones) than previous models. I surveyed most of the competition and this GE is still better than most. If it had noise reduction I would give it a 5, but the louder sound rates it a 4 for me.

We purchased this refrigerator for our office break room and are very please. It is roomy with plenty of shelves. The temperature is consistently cold even though we open and close the door frequently. We would definitely recommend this product

Nice top freezer unit. Good energy saver

This unit is replacing our old GE side by side. The last one lasted 32 years without a single repair needed. The defrost timer went bad and I couldn't get a replacement part so I figured it was time for a new fridge. We loved the side by side but NO ONE now makes one that will fit in a 31" width. This unit was chosen because of it fitting in the dimensions we needed. My wife doesn't like the bottom freezers and not happy with the unlit top freezers either. This is not a criticism of the unit but we were limited in our choices. There isn't a kick plate under the front door and we can see the unfinished floor under the fridge. This is the present design and we have to live with it.
The unit works well and we have no trouble with it. I have put a watt meter on it and it looks like it uses a third of the power of our old 1985 model. Looks well made and has a nice rippled black finish. It is relatively quiet. The compressor is quiet but the condenser fan can make a noticeable fan noise.
Makes ice very well and has a shut-off switch instead of lifting the sensor bar up. The sensor bar on this is a horizontal moving bar and therefore can't be pushed up. Ice drops can be loud startling. The freezer works well and maintains 0 degrees F. There in no light in the Freezer section. I did have to turn the freezer thermostat to "8" to get the desired freezer temp. of 0º. I get an even 33 degrees in the refrigerator section with the thermostat set at "5". Except for the very back center on the top shelf where I get some freezing. GE recommends 5 on both to start and does mention the cold spot in the top center rack. That's where the cold freezer air comes in.
Too much space is devoted to gallon containers on the front door. This takes away space from the racks and crisper drawers. We only use quart containers anyway and find the door shelf space excessive. Some may like this, we don't. You really have to reach in to get anything on the racks. We'll see if it makes it to 2050.
