It's all you need!

The 1520 is a great phone! I bumped up from the 920 which is equally great, but I wanted the larger screen. Add to that all the features and it's the perfect combination of a phone and a tablet.
Pros: everything all of the time!

Perfect for a college student

This is sort of a niche review, since college is the biggest thing in my life right now, so my phone has to serve many purposes relating to that. I'll begin with the software. WP 8.1 is absolutely wonderful. The calendar, Cortana, and OneDrive are essentials for college, and WP delivers on all three. My personal app recommendations for any college student: MyStudyLife, Wunderlist, OneDrive, Pandora or Spotify, and Flipboard, CBS News, or any other news app. My only gripe is Office, which desperately needs to be redone. With a 6" screen, I'd like to do stuff other than just view documents and edit basic text. Microsoft's promised us this, but so far, all we've seen is iOS getting everything on that front and WP getting another "Coming soon" promise. Still waiting on that OneNote redesign that iOS got last spring to come to WP, Microsoft. I don't buy the "iOS users are guinea pigs for WP" bull for even a second... Onto the hardware. The Nokia Lumia line doesn't get any better than this- excellent specs, and when given a 128 GB microSD card, you can store everything you want on your phone and still plenty of free space. The 20 MP camera is excellent, and once the Lumia Denim update comes out, it'll be even better, with 4K video recording! My only complaint here is the plastic casing- for a 6" phone, you need a stronger body to reduce the chance of breaking the phone. Buy a rugged case as soon as you get the phone. Overall, it's an excellent device and I completely recommend it!

Beautiful large screen with awesome battery life!

The screen is not too large. One handed typing is a little more difficult than my 920, but the trade off is worth it for all other aspects, browsing, reading, gaming and watching videos. This phone has really minimized the use of my tablet, except no Java. I have to revert to my desktop or tablet for full windows support. Windows platform and interoperability are truly the best and easiest platform. I have owned iPhone, android and windows Mobile prior and this is truly the best device I have owned. I hope the next large screen flagship blows me away like this one.

Excellent Hardware & Software

The downside of this handset is it's size. The upside is it's size. With a 6" diagonal screen it is one of the largest. At the end of the day it fits in all my pockets. I'm an Old Guy and it helps to have the larger screen. The main reason I purchased this phone was for it's camera along with the available software. I've taken some extra ordinary shots with this phone. Having MS Office is a nice touch although some features are not available when editing. My only complaint is the calander. I cannot set meetings for every other Friday or say the 2nd Tuesday of each month. I tried syncing my PCs Outlook with no success. Even though the available apps are limited it has almost everything I need. Did I mention how good the screen is? It's excellent.

Coming from a staunch Android user, this phone ROCKS!

I've been using Android phones since Donut, and looked at Windows Phone over the years and was not impressed. Switching carriers, I had the opportunity to look at all types of phones, and the Windows Phone 8.1 powered Lumia 1520 caught my eye. I talked to a few friends who work for carriers and they said that most people don't pick Windows Phones, but those that do STAY! I took a chance, bought the 1520 and i love this phone. Battery life is off the charts, coming in at about 2 days and I am a heavy user. Yeah, the app store isn't as full as Android and iPhone, but it has the apps I need and most that I want. This thing is fast, kinda big ( and I am coming from a Galaxy Note 2), but i quickly got used to the size. Cortana is about the best personal assistant I have used, the experience is solid and intuitive, the hardware is solid, the camera has had me leaving my DSLR at home more often. I could go on, but the thing I like about this phone ( and Windows Phone 8.1) over Android is the frequency of updates to the OS. I got 1 update on my Note2 in almost 2 years of use. This phone has already done 2 updates since I got it a month or so ago. And with windows announcing that we would probably get the upgrade to Win Phone 10 when it drops, I know I will get the latest and greatest as soon as it is ready. Looks like I'm going to be using Win phone for a while to come.

This is a big, beautiful phone!

I love this phone! This is my first Windows phone and I was initially intrigued by it because I liked Windows 8.1 on the PC. I'm a big guy with big hands so a large phone is a plus. I feel like the larger screens utilize the Windows 8.1 UI more efficiently. I loved the design of the Lumia 1520 when I first saw it and the fact that it is available in yellow, (my favorite color# was very much to my liking! The size of the phone is great, fits just right in my hands. The camera is top notch, one of the best I've seen on a phone to date. App selection is not as limited as most would make you believe. This phone is fast. The quad core set up does its job well. I've had an Android phone #my previous favorite# and an iPhone and neither are nowhere close to this phone. The Xbox games and Microsoft office integration adds a dimension new to mobile phones. The seamless interaction with my PC and Xbox One#via the Xbox One Smart glass app), keep me on top of work and in the game. Microsoft is known for their constant and timely updates to keep the phone fresh even as newer competition comes out. Although, for some strange reason I haven't experienced the long lasting battery that many others seem to have as my phone is pretty much on par with my iPhone in that regard which is about average. Go figure. If you want a large, well designed, smooth operating phone that's different than anything else out there, get this Lumia 1520, you wont regret it, I don't!
