Too much pre-loaded software, too little ram
on January 3, 2013
Posted by: SkaBob
We had 2 of these phones, both suffered the same problems. They had too little ram and too many samsung & t-mobile non-removable apps. They were always running out of memory, freezing the phone for 10-15 seconds when switching apps or trying to make a call.
The touch screens often became unresponsive, so you couldnt do anything but use the trackball to point and click to what you wanted.
After I rooted the phones and removed most all of the pre-installed apps they were much faster and no longer suffered from the long periods of loading / unloading apps. If they would have just done with to begin with and added more ram, these phones could have been much better.
I did like they keyboards, very nice to type on.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Don't waste your money on this phone.

This phone was great when I first got it, but it slowly lost value and started causing problems for me after about a year of use. I don't have too many apps on the phone and I don't use it heavily, but it slowed down so much and started freezing and declining phone calls randomly. It also shuts down randomly and sometimes freezes when I get call therefore not allowing me to answer the call. I don't recommend you get this phone, it's better to upgrade to an s3 or an iPhone 5. Sadly, I still have 7 months with this phone...
Pros: Built-in speakers
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Too big, Did not meet expectations, problems arise after 1 years of use, freezes, declines calls, shuts down randomly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Keyboard, poor followup to Danger Hiptop/Sidekick series

This was my first Android device and my last in the fabled Sidekick series by T-Mobile. For what it's worth, the 5-row QWERTY keyboard is probably the only thing that was worth it on this device. With touch screens being the norm these days, you'll be hard pressed to find a phone made with such an accurate/durable feature. Typing on it was a dream. The only downside is that it lacked the option for special characters depending on what you might be typing.
I also enjoyed the bright user interface & the gentle homage to the design/interface seen throughout the earlier iterations of the Sidekick family, as I feel it made getting used to Android very easy for me.
Secondly, sorry to say, but T-Mobile pretty much threw support for this device out the window back in 2012. What few updates that were issued seemed to make the device more sluggish/glitchy, with even a hard reset/clean not doing much in the way of improving functionality. My device would regularly freeze, or worst yet, restart itself at random intervals when browsing or using an app.
All in all, while it was a nice attempt at an addition to this fabled line, it just did not stack up in the end. Would recommend this as the last resort backup phone if and only if your regular one was going through the pits.
Pros: Inexpensive, Lightweight, awesome physical keyboard
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, lack of software support from provider, glitchy, poor specs for today's standards
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This phone is absolutely horrible, stay with your old flip phone until you can afford something decent. 5-10 times a week out of the box i've had to remove the battery because it freezes up. Sometimes answering a call freezes it... also the calendar, calculator, games, music, videos, sometimes just touching the screen, texting, browsing pictures. I can understand third party software not working but the software that came with the phone doesn't work? and it left the factory? I was considering getting a galaxy but now i just cant stand this company, LG G2 will be my next phone samsung phones come with some rediculous bogged down software. Is there anything u can do with this phone that DOESN'T make it lock up? USELESS
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Too big, Did not meet expectations, doesnt work never has
