MY NEW SIDEKICK
on October 3, 2011

First off i need to start by stating that I have been a big sidekick fan from the beginning. With that being said Samsung took this device and listened to every complaint that people like my self have had over the years and addressed each and every single one of them... from the surrounding buttons along the outside to the fact that it now has a touch screen. there has always been alot of front to these bad boys however Samsung has done what we all wanted, utilized about 95% of the face of this device and dedicated it to us... the USERS. great battery life, TONS of more potential by giving it the Droid platform, awesome sound, faster than ever, I always have service even in places I didn't with my previous device. Samsung blessed T-mobile with this wonderful addition to its mobile family and has now regathered a foothold into my family by putting out the SIDEKICK 4G Android.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, easy to use, great on-board support, presentation in and out of the box
Cons: a little costly however manageable with payments
I would recommend this to a friend!

SAMSUNG DID NOT MAKE THE SIDEKICK, THEY MADE A GALAXY S IN A SEMI SIDEKICK BODY

ALTHOUGH THE PRODUCT SAYS SIDEKICK ON IT, IT IS NOTHING LIKE AN ACTUAL SIDEKICK. IT DOES NOT HAVE A FLASH ON THE CAMERA. IT DOES NOT OFFER THE SAME SHORT CODES TO GET TO CERTAIN FUNCTIONS, NOR DOES IT OFFER THE SCREENSHOT FUNCTION. I HAVE HAD THE SIDEKICK LX FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS & I HAVE BECOME VERY FOND OF THE QUICK FUNCTIONALITY IT OFFERS, THIS PHONE DID NOT MEET THAT.
DEAR SAMSUNG. I PERSONALLY THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE REVIEWED THE OLD PRODUCT & WHAT THE SIDEKICK OFFERED AS OPPOSED TO WHAT YOU CAN MAKE IT BECOME. DONT GET ME WRONG THE ANDROID OPTION IS WONDERFUL, BUT WHATS THE ANDROID WITH A BATTERY LIFE OF 3 HOURS? TO EVOLVE THE SIDEKICK, GO BACK TO THE SWIVEL SCREEN, ADD THE FLASH BACK TO THE CAMERA, ADD THE SCREENSHOT SHORT CODE BACK & MAKE ALL THE EMAIL OPTIONS IN THE WORLD AVAILABLE. NOT EVERYONE SHOULD BE FORCED TO HAVE A CERTAIN EMAIL ACCOUNT BECAUSE THEY HAVE A SAMSUNG PHONE.
THANKS

Cons: Did not meet expectations

Not sure about SK4G
on May 1, 2011

Ok, I STILL have my SK1 and yes it works, so I have something to compare it to along with my SK LX 2009.
Hardware: The legacy sidekick buttons on the sides are not as intuitive (menu - settings, etc) on the new model so it takes longer to find things but that could be an android issue too. I know some didn't like the disco track ball BUT you need something to move the cursor up, down, left, right to type. I don't know what to call the disco ball replacement on the SK4G because its flat & doesn't work well at all. The old SK1 had arrows which worked well. The disco ball on the LX works too. That needs to be corrected IMMEDIATELY.
On the LX you can navigate to and thru a call with the screen down because the keys are on the hardware. I find it takes a few swipes and moves to get to the phone.
As for the screen, I find text is super small and you have to pinch/adjust every page you go to even though the screen is a good size. That could be an android flaw. On the LX sites load in the full screen and the font is readable. No adjusting necessary. The screen real estate could be expanded left to right if they got rid of the cheezy SK symbol.
Software/settings: I checked the settings and it's supposed to rotate but it doesn't when using the phone. It rotates in 2 directions. I also had to change ALL of the settings to control privacy. I hate the home screens and it's not intuitive when it comes to customization. Couldn't find the right video online either. Too much work to figure things out for me. The phone copied my contacts from the sim to the phone so contacts are in 2x so you have to delete the contact saved to the phone. Waste of time.
Battery: I watch videos (news clips, music, very few TV shows) and the battery life is inadequate. You will need to carry the charger with you if you're out all day. I'm not trying to do that.
Keyboard: Some of the keys are not in the right places. Not a huge issue but a QWERTY keyboard needs to be consistent. People use laptops and expect the comma to be in the right place on any keyboard.
Speakers: The speakers are on the back of the phone which doesn't work well when on calls and surfing at the same time.
I've been on the phone with 611 daily since the upgrade and they could barely hear me at times so the speaker on the front side is obviously not as good as the LX.
Touch screen can be non-responsive especially when the phone is running warm/hot. It heats up when watching videos after 5 10 minutes. Not good.
I'm new to android so I find some things annoying so we'll see. Bottom line, I'll wait for another version. I think Sharp did a good job with the LX and would have liked to see what a Sharp SK4G would have looked like. Not a fan of the Samsung model. The phone is going back. I'll wait and save my money.
Pros: Inexpensive, qwerty keyboard
Cons: Did not meet expectations, battery (video drain) gets hot, 4g = 3g speed no real difference, slider screen not ez to open, touch screen accurate 80% of time
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
