The product works very well but only after updating the software online. It would be good to sell the product with current software or have the startup do the upgrade automatically. This all requires access to the internet.
Read some reviews, pros and cons, and decided to give it a try. As of today I have been very pleased, it is easy to operate and has all the apps I wanted in the player.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hi ThreeWire, its good to hear that you're very pleased with this Blu-ray player. We thank you for choosing Sony! Regards,
I would recommend the Blu-ray player, but would warn my friends that they have to buy all the cables and internet connections separately. There was nothing on the packaging that stated these items were separate.

Hello Redhead61! Thank you for sharing this feedback with us, we will make sure to pass this information regarding the supplied accessories to the proper department for further review. The models that do come with an HDMI cord supplied are BDP-BX550, BDP-BX350 and BDP-BX150 only.
After resetting the modem / router from the cable company, our streaming experience has been enjoyable. I checked the signal strength using the Sony's menu and it seems to be more than enough to stream TV & movies in HD. Still learning about the remote, but the instruction booklet is straight forward, so learning should progress easily. The only draw back to this unit is the little green "on" light in the upper right corner of the unit's face. No menu, which is one of the reason the blue ray player is so small. We have not tried playing a disk yet. The unit was set to "power save" so it loads up streaming data on the slow side, which is OK with us. Patience....and you will enjoy using this tiny unit.

Hello CharlieT! As you have mentioned this model doesn't come with a display to show the current status at the front of the unit, but we appreciate the feedback and will be forwarding it to the proper department for future reference.

The BDP-S5500 has been rushed to market and is not quite ready. I have recurring problems with the machine "locking Up" and cannot continue until the power cord is removed and reinserted. This occurs with the "Pandora app" most of the time. Contacted support at Sony, they instructed me to contact Pandora...not going to happen. I am instructing you to contact Pandora or your java engineers and get this fixed. I believe I am resigned to return to where I purchased it.... this is what you get buying a "new" product. Sony Marketing is in such a hurry to the thing released, they don't let engineering finish it.....Just when I think sony may be getting their act together...very disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi dkoff, Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will forward your information to the proper department. Thank you for your feedback.
After getting use to the difference between this one and our old one. It is great. The picture is crisp, three D. The ease of use is great. I would recommend this unit to everyone.
