Best Monitor For the Price
on August 9, 2011

I have many cPVA and IPS monitors since I have many redundant systems at home. The last IPS monitor I purchased was backlit with ccfl's and while I can't complain about the quality of my other monitors, THE IPS231 is LED backlit and is an outstanding monitor for Photography and Video creation. The price was a steal especially considering that all my monitors are 23" so adding this to a current workstation was great.
This is the best IPS monitor for the price and it reproduces color and blacks very well.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, great black levels
I would recommend this to a friend!

Immersive Experiance

I love everything about my new LG monitor, except one of the features I bought it for, the built in speaker/speakers. I hoped to eliminate some clutter around my computor table with the built in speakers, but the sound is pretty weak. I didn't expect great sound, just competant sound. Just a hint of bass to take some tininess out!
Pros: Style/Design, easy to use, Quality

This display is a winner and a champion.

I bought this display to be my primary display back in 2011, and demoted my older 1680x1050 display as the secondary.
This display has been worth every euro and cent. With it being an IPS panel, the image quality and colour reproduction are as good as one would expect, and I have been extremely satisfied with it. I do some limited graphics work, and this display made it much easier to accurately gauge the colours, brightness and contrast of the images.
Adjustments of gamma curves for individual colours are unnecessary, as the default values provide very good results. Colour consistency with viewing angle changes is very good, both on horizontal and vertical direction.
With the matte black finish of the frame, the display doesn't gather fingerprints. With physical buttons, adjusting the menus is easy as you have a tactile sensation of accessing them, and the simple, dim blue power LED is virtually unnoticeable. Matte surface on the display itself is, of course, prime requirement for a desktop display, and in this product there is very little glare even in bright environment.
Full HD (1080p) resolution has so far been very much sufficient for games and other computer use, supplemented with the old display as a desktop extension. The 60 Hz VSync rate is likewise sufficient.
The response time, as one would expect with an early 2010s IPS display, is not excellent. But neither is there any easily detectable ghosting. Basically, you have to load up specific ghosting detection utility and actively look for it to see the effects of ghosting from slow response time.
The only slightly negative thing I can even think of is that the backlight produces a slight bleed-through on the edges of the display when viewing very dark images. In most cases this is a non-issue, it exists but is much more consistent and subdued than almost any other flat panel display I've ever seen.
As for features, well, I had to give four stars out of five on that sector simply because there are no special features. The display stand is good and solid, the adjustment options are slightly lesser than in some other displays I've seen, but perfectly adequate for practically all desktop environments. This put the "features" score to 3 for "average".
However, this is a very good basic display for anyone who appreciates good colour accuracy and image quality. There are no tricked-out magical 9,999,999:1 dynamic contrast enhancement nonsense, no "colour optimization" settings, no 3D features, nor the new high FPS capabilities (which I wouldn't expect from a display this old anyway).
The lack of these eye-bleeder "features" means I have to award an additional star for sheer integrity and confidence in this display - to build it without those frills, and to market it on its actual values rather than big numbers from the sales department.
Thank you, LG, for producing this display. Keep making displays with similar values for high image quality, simple aesthetics, and good reliability, and I will be looking for the eventual replacement from the same direction.
