Bought this item in Dec. 2011 and used infrequently as it is located in a second home. Watched a BluRay one night and the next day unit would not turn on. Resetting the unit did not work. Researched the website and found others reporting similar problems. They stated the unit must be returned to LG for repair. Am waiting to ship back to LG right now. Very disappointed.
Pros: easy to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I BOUGHT THE BD690 AS A UPGRADE, HAVING A RC897T I THOUGHT LG WAS THE WAY TO GO, THE PRICE WAS HIGH,THE REMOTE DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK,STREAMING SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE, CANT RECORD TO THE 250 GIG HARDDRIVE. A 6TH GRADER WOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB PROGRAMING IT. LG SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS JUST TO SAVE THEIR NAME.
Pros: tv stand

This one has it all and it peformes flawlessly. Blu-ray,dvd and cd all play very well. If you were like me and bought a tv with out internet aps, you can still have them by getting the bd690. I hate dealing with all my cd's finding the one I want when I want it and changing them in and out of the player. Also some of them will get scratched sooner or later. I saved all of them to the hard drive in this machine and now listen to what I want when I want. I do alot of photography and most of it is in my computer but putting special photos on the hard drive in this machine makes it easy and fast to show them to family and friends.

The other reviewer spelled it out pretty well. This unit is one of the worst pieces of technology that I've ever owned.....and that's saying something.
Pros: can be recycled

We purchased this BDP in April 2012 and did not open the box until April 2013. Towards end of April/May we hooked the BDP with our TV and realized that it refused to start. It kept giving us error and never started. We bought this model at a high price and had to trash it. Wasted money and expired warranty before we even used it!

Worst device I have ever purchased.

I've had the BD 690 for over a year now, so it's passed the warranty period. I have contacted LG on many occasions trying to resolve various problems. Most annoying was the inability to update firmware and driver. Impossible to update directly online. Was able to download updates to computer then USB drive occasionally, but usually had to have LG send update on a CD. Now the device will not recognize the harddrive. To make matters even worse, the blueray player no longer works. On the bright side, it does make a stunningly lovely paper weight.
Pros: paper weight
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
