Great features but poor quality

This unit was purchased to cool a upstairs bedroom in 2011. I was impressed with the features and looks when evaluating the unit. It worked great for two seasons, and this summer there is no cool air. I followed the trouble shooting suggestions without success. I described the units operation to my the technician who services my home central unit, and he suggested that the refrigerant leaked out. I discussed the cost of fixing. and he said that I would be better served to buy a new unit. Consequently I would not recommend the unit due to the short life of the unit.

Didn't Last a Year

Search for reviews for people who have owned this for *more than a year*. You'll find many that have the same issue I do: after storing the unit for a year and trying to use it the next season, it barely emits any cool air. This is apparently a pretty common problem. I can't recommend this product, and I will probably never consider another LG air conditioner again.

The LG a/c did not blow cold air when we tried to use it the third year. Purchased @ home depot. (We live in Oregon and it's only too hot here for about a solid week plus a couple days spread out here and there.) I've looked last year or the year before for cost to repair and it was so expensive. This year, I came on this site to see if I could find repair parts to do it myself. This a/c is such a waste to throw away if I can repair it. I have a similar type a/c made by Maytag that I've had 12 years... still working. So I guess I expected the same from this LG.

We are now on our 2nd service call. The unit is very noisy and fills with water and needs draining every 2 hours. When it works, it cools OK however it is very noisy.

Excellent Air-Conditioner, Worth the Money
on July 23, 2012

I live on the second floor of an apartment building and it can get very warm in the apartment. I was initially hesitant to purchase a portable air conditioner, but I’m overall very satisfied with this unit.
What I like:
It does its primary job, cooling down my apartment, very well. On a very hot day (90 degrees +) it won’t get the apartment ice cold, but it keeps it comfortable. The air conditioner is slightly louder than a refrigerator when the compressor is on. I have to turn up the volume on the TV, but it’s bearable. I’m able to sleep when the air conditioner is running. Lastly, I LOVE the timer function. I set the timer to turn on the air conditioner an hour before I get home from work. By the time I get home the apartment is comfortable, and I save money by not needing to run the unit all day.
Suggestions for improvement:
While I really like this air conditioning unit, nothing is ever perfect. Here are some things which could be improved: The window assembly for the vent hose is not very sturdy. I ended up taking measurements and cut a piece of wood which I put into the window and connected to the vent hose to. The display on the unit doesn’t say what the in room temperature is, only what your desired temperature is. It would be nice to see the current in room temperature is, especially when the ac first starts. Lastly, the instruction manual could be a little more detailed. For example, it doesn’t tell you how often it’s recommended to run the auto clean function.
Pros: Performance, easy to use, Quality

Failed after only 15 - 25 total hours of use.

Failed after only 8 - 12 uses. Out of warranty; too expensive to fix, a waste of money. Stopped "blowing cold" though fan and compressor were apparently operating. Before it failed it worked well.

Capable product

I had this product for 5 years before I started having problems. During those 5 years this product did a very good job for it's intended purpose. It was able to cool down my 500 sq. ft. room with no problems. Features are nice/adequate but the remote could use a light feature for night time operation. The noise level is rated at 54 dbl. which is tolerable for operation. Developed a leak of some kind after 5 years of use, had it recharged but could not find the leak, however the compressor itself is still working. I would recommend this product.

Died after 2 years
on August 3, 2015

In line with all of the other reviews, the product died after 2 years. The compressor breaks down after 2 years and cannot blow cold air anymore. They only warranty service for one year. Would be appreciated if LG fixed all of the broken compressors as the machines are wasted being unused and too expensive to fix.
