This is review covers the replacement of the identical 2TB Hard Drive that failed after 18 months. It was great to have a warranty to cover the failed unit. The trouble shooting on the fist unit was expertly handled by the Lorex tech and when it was found to have failed, a replacement was shipped out immediately. The new hard drive took less than 10 minutes to install and reformat. The system fired right up and with the exception of the one week waiting for the replacement, the system is back up and running perfectly.

Being new and being inexperience

Being new and being inexperience in owning a surveillance system with 8 camera ports and 4 cameras Lorex NVR 7108a with 2 terabytes hardrive, I was super excited about my purchase. Here comes the however, however, every time I connected a camera to the NVR, it gobbled up tons of storage. In addition, my NVR only has one hard drive bay. You can not add additional storage to the existing hard drive bay. You have to get rid of the current hard drive and buy a new hard drive and replace it with more terabytes. I guess my point is to make sure you have at least 2 or more hard drive bays to increase your storage capacity. I'm happy with my unit for now. Their products are overrated and over advertised on their storage capacity.

Recertified hard drive

Bought as a spare but have been using it for over a week to verify it's fully functional while still in the warranty period. So far I've had no problems with it. Was concerned with the shipping as it was just the drive shipped in a thin padded envelope with no protection. No box, no real padding, etc. Just the drive in an envelope. But no problems so far.
