Will never purchase another GE product. Third GE appliance failure. This one had to have the circuit motherboard replaced 4 times within 2 years. Got a full refund after the 4th circuit board replacement failed. Overpriced not made in the US Garbage.

Too Many Inconvenient Things
on March 7, 2012

Right out of the box, this unit did not work. I had to call GE repair within 20 minutes of installation. After waiting a few days for them to arrive, turns out there were wires inside the unit that were not properly connected at the factory. Once working, I found the unit to be very noisy, the dial to be very inconvenient, the display often times makes no sense, I'd like to be able to set the time to increments less than 15 seconds long, the button pad has no tactle response to let you know you hit the right button, the defrost feature cannot be set to more than one pound (really!), setting the timer takes buttons and knobs and three hits with your fist - it's really stupid. Overall, GE completely missed it with this one. Take a lesson from Apple and Steve Jobs - make a product that is intuitive and made for the user. Don't make the user bend to the eccentricities of the appliance.

Do Not Buy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are very disappointed in our GE Profile Stainless Steel microwave. Bought in September 2012. The handle is positioned over the hottest burner on our new GE profile gas stove. After 2 months the handle started peeling and we found it was plastic instead of stainless steel. GE did replace the door but with another plastic handle made to look like stainless steel. Had we known this, we would not have bought it. As it matches our new GE profile refrigerator, diswasher and stove, we are not sure what to do when the handle peels again..

My wife and I were very pleased with the operation of this appliance. It is easy to program, inspite of the unusual combination button and knob.
I was a little miffed at the installation. I was replacing an older GE over-the-stove spacesaver microwave with this one and the mounting holes for the new unit were each less than an inch from the position of the older unit making drilling and mounting much more difficult than expected.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointing for a 'Profile' appliance ...
on August 18, 2012

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We replaced all of our GE appliances with updated GE appliances ~8 months ago … All have disappointed us.
First, I have to agree with another reviewer that the knob control is "stupid." Really, just poor design ...
While we have not had any reliability issues with this microwave, we find ‘using’ the appliances a constant source of frustration. The source of this frustration and which is common across all of the appliances is that the lettering of all pad controls is gray on a black background, with no back lighting ! You can see this for yourself in the appliance photos on this site, and zooming in makes it even more apparent. The natural lighting within our kitchen area is well within the range of normal but, because of the lack of contrast between the lettering and the background it’s necessary to turn on additional lights (e.g. overhead kitchen light) just to be able to ‘see/read’ the pad controls. You almost need a flashlight to use the controls, and I’m exaggerating only slightly. To us, this seems to be a design blunder … GE could have at least offered control back lighting as an ‘option’ which we would have gladly paid for.
As far as the 'convection' feature is concerned, it's almost useful (sic.) It takes so long to heat up that after using it a few times you will likely, like us, find yourself using the range oven or dragging out the toaster overn, the latter of which we were hoping the convection feature of this microwave would replace. No such luck ...
Another disappointment is that the temperature/clock/timer lighting on the microwave and stove is greenish while on the refrigerator it’s white. All are Profile appliances, all purchased new and all purchased at the same time. I understand designs change over time but, putting out a ‘current’ line of appliances (e.g. Profile) with mixed lighting shows lack of attention to detail.
The GE Engineers, Human Factors and Quality Control folks should spend more time with these units in the ‘real’ world and less time in lab. So disappointing, and so irritating …

Looks good; does the job!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've never seen a microwave oven with a dial control before. This is very weird in my opinion, plus the fact that you can only select 15 second increments for the microwave. We've had to adapt by selecting more time and watching the clock to shut off when we get the right time. I'm worried about the above range positioning and whether this unit can literally take the heat from the gas range below. Despite quirky control knob and complex touch panel - seems to work OK. Handle feels loose and cheap.
