Good value

This is the second HP laptop I've purchased personally, both for my college-age kids. I am a computer professional for a living so I do research of various laptops for work. I set it up for one of my kids, it was fairly straightforward, and made sure system recovery was enabled. Yes, one reviewer said it was a pain to have to get recovery disks separately but I wouldn't mark down a product because of that, we're reviewing it for it's features, right? I rarely give perfect scores in my reviews so 4 out of 5 stars is pretty good in my standards. If you do research for a similar laptop in its class, with a second generation core i3 processor, minimum 4GB RAM (got it with 6GB RAM), and 500 GB hard drive capacity, you'll find that it's competitively priced out there. Booted up fine, and seems to run cooler than the typical HP products of the past. The only product competing with it in my book is HP's own dv-4t model if it went on sale around the same price, though I never understood why smaller laptops cost more because of portability considering it uses less material to manufacture. But despite the larger 15.6 inch screen compared to the dv-4t's 14 in. screen, this g6t comes in more variety of colors than some other HP models, and the custom color we got was striking and classy, not funky, cheap-looking like some other brands when they come in a different color. But so far so good, hopefully it will hold up in the long term and won't have to resort to recovery disks or calling tech support ;)

Less than I expected

This computer had my minimum requirements:
1) 3 USBs
2) Windows 7 (i didn't want 8)
3) 8GB RAM
It was also competitively priced. However, since receiving my order and accomplishing the required updates, I have a few complaints.
1) HP product software (HP support assistant, HP Security Assistant, etc): These software products do not seem to add anything to my computer experience, in fact, they do not register my AVG anti-virus software as a valid option, and continue to press me to install Norton (there is zero chance of my using a Norton product ever). This is one example of the HP software problems. In addition, they seem to be highly integrated to the computer, and since this is my first personally owned Window 7 machine, I am not yet familiar enough to remove them. Software should help, not add hassle.
2) Two of my USB slots malfunction daily. I have received "unknown device" warnings from these slots and daily have to restart my computer to get the USB slots to recognize my external HD. I have tried manually searching out USB root Hub drivers and this seems to help somewhat, but in a brand new computer using an established OS, I shouldn't have to do this.
3) Nowhere on the exterior of my laptop can I find the documentation as to computer serial number, model number, etc. I can search the computer properties page, but the computer should ship with this information on it. The Windows 7 OS license key is properly placed, but the HP information is not.
All in all, the reason that this computer is average is that it has required so much work from me to make it work. HP is an established name in computers, and Windows 7 is an established OS. Therefore, other than updating my computer, I shouldn't have to work to make it work. If I had bought some cheap knockoff I would expect this behavior, but not with HP.

For the price...great buy!

I reviewed this laptop (Intel only) against Dell and Sony. For the price, the hard drive, processor and ram were my main drivers. Windows OS 7, not ready to deal with Win 8, so I was pleased to get this laptop at the price point advertised with Win 7 OS, 4gb ram and an Intel processor that was an I3 vs. a b980 or worse. Overall, I'm happy with the unit. It is easy to manage and the case is solid. The graphics are reasonable for my use. The stereo sound and the web cam are better than e expected. I found the key board a bit awkward at first as the touch pad is centered on the key board rather than centered on the device. However, it works fine. The brightness is good. I can see the icons clearly and graphics are on the board, but sufficient. It is a bit lighter and that's good by me. Used the dvd player and worked fine. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would buy again/recommend to buy for my friends/family.

Due to a technical problem, I exchanged this laptop for another, which is being delivered. I ordered an exact duplicate. Everything was going well, but after less than a full day's use, it was necessary to contact HP customer service, who advised the exchange. HP was definitely interested in my needs and is working to insure satisfaction.

i had another laptop from another company and i found hp had laptops with windows 7 and you can customize as well i love the speed and how it works its one the better laptops that i have owened i would recomemed this while hp stil offers windows 7

This is only my second laptop but I'm already in love with it. This PC is easy to use, for those of us with little technological prowess, yet it is fast enough to keep up with the scattered thoughts of an overwhelmed student. The webcam works beautifully and the microphone picks up whispers. I would definitely recommend this laptop to students looking for some easy to use tech.

This is my fourth HP laptop and it is really more than I expected. The many features are outstanding. I really like the new screen; no glare. The speed of the processor is very fast. This is a lot of computer for the price and I know I am going to enjoy using it as I start my our business.
