Comfortable and great sound!

I bought the Q701 as an anniversary gift for my wife so she can watch her shows on the TV without disturbing the children at night. She and I both love them. Definitely get an amplifier for these headphones since tv and stereo jacks are normally unamplified. I paired ours up with the FiiO E12 amp and it does the job fine. (Don’t be afraid to get a stronger amp than mine either.) The over-ear styling is much more comfortable than the ear-smushing style. The phones are durable, the cables DO wear out at the user end of the cable, the same way phone charger cables do. That’s why they sell replacement cables. :-)

I prefer them to my NS10s and probably even my Focal speakers. Perfect for everything.

I bought the Q701 nearly 5 years ago and abused them to a maximum. They carried me on bicycle through rain, dropped a thousend times from my table and so on. Just the plastic-height-headband-piece and one of the two cables are broken after all but who cares? They work perfectly. The sound is absolutly great and i like how clean the voices are. Also in my opinion they are very comfortable. Sometimes i use them 10-12 hours a day. 5/5 would buy again!

I bought these headphones in 2015 and they sound even better now than they did when i first purchased them. (there is a breaking in period). However in the beginning of 2018 one of my cables mysteriously stopped working, which sucks because I haven't been able to use them with my audio interface ever since. I have been using the secondary extra long aux cable that came with it and now this one is starting to break too!! Keep in mind there is no visible wear on any of these cables so they must be shorting out over time. I haven't put them through hardly any abuse as I use them exclusively at my workstation and have other headphones I use on the go. Im not sure how much a replacement cable cost but will have to purchase one soon.

The best sound quality I have ever owned.

I purchased these through the original Massdrop Q701 sale many years back. Checking my email it's been at least 4 years now, and they are still going strong.
I paired them with the monoprice headphone amp and have found this to be the bang for the headphone buck. As a first foray into the audiophile headphone world, I did not choose poorly.
I encountered the issues with hot-spots from the bumps on the headband, which I imagine to be a case by case basis. Since I knew I would be wearing these cans for the next decade at a minimum, I removed the stitching of the headband and removed the internal foam. I stitched the unit back together and now have no issues what-so-ever. A few minutes of my time and I have fixed what so many complain about. Perhaps in future models, there can be a headband or three of different styles, with some interchangeability? That would really push these over the top.
After 4 solid years of listening 12-16 hours a day, both at the radio station I had worked for, and later the software firm I work for now, and of course gaming on my PC, I developed a loss of sound in the right ear. I followed the guide many use to do the 'bass port' mod in order to disassemble the unit properly and found that one of the wires had simply shook loose of it's solder. This is to be expected with the amount of vibration over such a long period of time; one drop of solder had me back in the game.

Excellent value, accurate performers

I had mine for at least five years. I'm just now ordering a new set of earpiece cushions as the current ones flattened out. I improved the comfort by strapping on, with wire ties, some foam rubber weather stripping under the headband. The supplied 3 m power cord is perfect, as I often sit on a sofa where I either watch TV or listen to music from the big hi-fi rig. I find the Q701s excellent for film and music, due to their high resolution, spatial openness, and natural timbres. The frequency response range is better than my other 'phones, the Sennheiser HD600 headphones, extending deeper into the bass and being way more extended on top. While the Senn's have a pretty and engaging midrange, I feel that the AKG Q701's are better overall, especially where accurate portrayal of musical content is important.
