I already had to have the front panel replaced due to it having a line across screen. I have only had the TV for four months. I can say though that Samsung sent someone out right away and was very easy to deal with.
Pros: Inexpensive, Realistic color
Cons: line across screen
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I went to purchase a "flat" TV at 51" and left with this fantastic set. My room has lots of daylight, so the decision of a plasma over LCD was an easy one. The blacks on this set are incredible. Detail in High Def is off the wall (Game of Thrones, How to Train a Dragon, Transporter) no tracing, no smearing, crisp even during the most active scenes.
The 2D to 3D capability is actually quite good. I've only run Shrek 1 (in regular DVD) so far and it created quite a field of depth. Kids are very very excited.
Over all this is one great set!!!!
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color
Cons: slightly hotter than an lcd but 12 feet from seat

Excellent Plasma Display; excellent price ; and the drop in the price of the Bluetooth 3D glasses made this display an easy choice.

For the money, this Display has the most features as well as the best picture. Standard video is impressive but 3D is where this T.V. really stands out.

If you're not interested in Wireless you should buy this TV. Its only comparable models considering price and picture (1080 51" 3D plasma) are the panasonic st30 which is not nearly as attractive and several other models that are much more expensive. the st30 is visually ugly and has a great picture but the d550 has a great picture and is attractive with no picture at all. THe picture is great the blacks are really deep and its got a host of settings to tweak. No blur on my football. the drawbacks with the tv are this is a really thin tv so it begs to be wall mounted yet there are only 2 usb and 2 hdmi ports on the side. on occasion I can see the contrast adjust (see FBr on web) which is weird to see. this should be fixed. sound is wimpy just like every other flat panel but I found it acceptable in our small room (we eventually did beef it up). Apps on the tv are a little sluggish (maybe Im spoiled by the computer speed ) but I found it frustrating sifting through hundreds of netflix movies at the slow speed. they do play fine once you pick one. Also there are few 3d apps for the tv. I would think that they could make at least a few 3d games or demo videos to show it off to friends.

Cons: occasional fbr

Great 3D TV for the Value

SO after extensive researching on 3D TV I kept coming back to the Samung... I went to numerous retailers and did weeks of reading the pros & cons of each tv.. in the end it came down to a shoot out between this and one of the Panasonic 50" models... The deal breaker was the cost of the active 3D glasses.. and ultimately the overall picture quality.... Samsung Image quality was just ooverall crisper and brighter, and the 3D rendering was great. Now having owned it for about a month the image just gets better as the TV gets settled in. I have yet to actually calibrate it as I wanted to give it some "burn in" time which is normally around 100 hours. One thing I feel it is lacking is more menu features for fine tuning. As I get to embark on the calibration Phase I notice there are limited menu options... like only 3 picture modes... another small issue is once in awhile during dark scenes while watching Direct TV HD channels there will be a brief flicker from time to time. Also when rendering 2D - 3D images are not always clean, and with native 3D content sometimes you will see doubled edged even though most everything else is truly 3 dimensional... hence my knocking 1 star off of features and performance... Seeing as this product is able to receive updated VIA the internet I am certain over time these small and I mean VERY minor issues will be addressed... realistaically tho for my first forray into 3D HDTV this has been an awesome awesome TV, and I am 100% satisfied with my choice.

NEW! 51" Class Plasma 550 Series

This is a wonderful tv. I brought it to put in a spare bedroom that i turned into a gameroom cause my wife took over the 55" Samsung LED in our living room that i was playing my Xbox and PS3 cause the 46" in our bedroom was no longer big enough for her. It is the perfect size for this room which is on the dark side and i like it that way while I'm playing Call Of Duty. I was never a big fan of plasma's before but after looking at this tv for a while and i mean " A WHILE", i brought it. I like the fact that i can convert 2D tv into 3D tv for my daughter to watch stuff and make my Xbox game 3D too. She has our old 40" Samsung in her room and she don't watch it anymore except for when i wanna play my game. The only con i have is that it doesn't have internet apps like my 46 and 55 but its cool, i just use the Xbox or PS3. Great 3D tv at a great price. Will get one for my daughter's room at tax time

This is my first 3D TV. A friend of mine bought a Panasonic 3D TV and by far I have the better TV. I read a lot of reviews on my particular model. Some people just mess around with the settings entirely too much it seems. I guess it helped that I already own a Samsung plasma TV.
