Easy Money

If you are smart enough to load the software, you are smart enough to use Turbotax. Why does anybody ever go pay someone to prepare their personal taxes. What a waste of money. I even do my business taxes with ease.

In reference to the Bailey's retirement when filling out the North Carolina State tax return. Your program asked if I had received it with A W-2 if I answered no then it never asked about it again. I received this money under DFAS which is handled on a 1099-R, Your program needs to acknowledge this and accept this form in order to perform the necessary deduction from state taxable income.
What's great about it: pretty easy to understand and follow
What's not so great: Bailey's Retirement per North Carolina's State return

Very detailed and user friendly

I've been a Turbotax user for many years, and I prefer the manual entry mode instead of having it guide me every step of the way. The printed forms look great.
What's great about it: It offers a manual entry mode.
What's not so great: Very lengthy guide-me.

Have used Turbo Tax for many years. Looked at one other tax preparation several years ago, rejected it as to hard and went back to Turbo Tax.

Still Easier Each Year

I have used this program for at least 20 years. It has gotten better with each year. For the price, you can't beat it as long as you are meticulous at collecting the documentation you need OR might need. Suggest you start at the beginning of each year with a "Annual TAX Info" folder and just put anything that might apply and get particular during December of the tax year and into January and February of the year following. More info is better than not finding what you really need.
I particularly like that there are links to most sections to explain things meant by the section. I don't have to go read a long winded manual which would likely confuse me anyway.
