WHY USE AN ACCOUNTANT

I have used TT for years and it has always served me well. Unless you have a really complicated income/expense life, it seems a waste to pay an accountant. TT covers every situation i have ever experienced including selling a home and retiring and transferring IRA's.
What's great about it: EASY TO USE
What's not so great: SOMETIMES IT TAKES A WHILE TO FIND AN ANSWER, I.E. ORIGINATION FEES ON A MORTGAGE.

I don't think it had anything to do with turbo tax, but I didn't like that my w-2 info would not import.

Overall, TurboTax is still the easiest software for doing taxes. However, the repeated sales pitches really get annoying and it would be nice to see some improvement to skipping around sections, I prefer to go ahead and enter my forms as they arrive, but TurboTax really wants you to go step-by-step in the order it defines. Add an option to simply enter forms without stepping through the steps.
What's great about it: Still the most intuitive software for doing taxes
What's not so great: Too many ads
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It is a great way to do your taxes in the privacy of your home and not needing an appointment you get a chance to go through it and make sure you have everything. If you are not sure about anything, there is a place that explains what each thing is. It was very helpful!

did not import my info

Have used turbo tax for the last 5 years - and for the first time it did not import the info from my prior years return and only imported one of my w2's - even though it said it was available -have never had this problem before

messy filing this year

i love turbotax and i have been using it for years. This year was awful because there literally was no link for me to file my return. I ended up on the phone with turbotax support for 3 hours. I ended up having to download the program because i was unable to do my taxes online. It all worked out in the end as I got the deluxe version for free but the frustration of the whole process was not something I wish on anyone.
What's great about it: do it yourself

We use Turbo Tax every year. Easy import from the previous year, it queries you for the most common deductions. You still need to do some research for uncommon items but overall much better than paying an accountant to do your taxes. We paid a guy over $200 one year and tested vs. Turbo Tax...got the same result. Have been using Turbo Tax ever since. We have moved 4 times, married, had kids, changed jobs...all easy.
What's great about it: Very easy. Easy access to most common deductions
What's not so great: Need some knowledge to know if you missed something
