A Load Off

I started my career many years ago as a CPA with a major accounting firm. Over the years, as my career moved away from accounting, preparing my taxes became more and more of a chore, so about 12 year ago I decided to try TurboTax. TurboTax makes it easy, starting with the import of prior year's data - that alone saved potentially hours! I have never been able to import W-2s successfully, but with the step by step input instructions, it only takes about 3 minutes to input. TurboTax has way more questions than I have circumstances, so you end up going through a lot of screens that don't apply. I wonder if there is a way to ask some summary questions at the beginning (like do you own rental property etc. # that would by-pass some of that...I love the ability to e-file, but I hate having to pay extra to e-file the state.
All-in-all though, it's hard to beat TurboTax, but it still seems crazy that a college educated former accountant still needs hours to file taxes even using a tool as helpful as Turbo Tax. (I don't blame Intuit for that - it's a "flaw in the system")

What's great about it: Questions that guided me through
What's not so great: Taxes are still way too complicated for we mere mortals!

During the state return, it would not let us edit the taxable income for the particular state. I am in the military and a resident of a different state and therefore not taxable to our current state, but my wife's income is. It doe not account for this circumstance making it impossible to file state taxes with this program and I now have to file in paper form.
What's great about it: Federal is easy
What's not so great: State is horrible

The Fed consistently rejected my return for incorrect Fed ID Numbers on 3099Rs. I reviewed them and corrected one number but the same rejection notice keeps returning. I even compared 3099Rs with last year. Yep! No change, same as last year. No help from the community and no help from Turbo Tax. This may be my last year with you.
What's great about it: step by step is clear and sufficient
What's not so great: When something goes wrong help is nowhere to be found.

Made a tedious job easy!

Great product! After an uneventful install, I was able to run, transfer my last years information, enter in this years information, complete both Federal and state (after accuracy checks), and then file them electronically all within a matter of several hours. No hiccups or problems encountered along the way!
What's great about it: Easy to use, to transfer the previous years information and file

Turbo Tax gets easier every year! Our taxes aren't too complicated to start with but a family with kids, business expenses, etc. is enough and Turbo Tax makes it very easy to get the taxes done quickly and accurately.

Turbo Tax Always

Have used Turbo Tax for almost 20 years. It's not perfect, but I can't find a reason to switch to anything else. Makes doing taxes almost fun... as long as you don't have to write a check at the end...
What's great about it: Transfers information from prior years. Easy to Use. Downloads W2's and 1099's from employers and Investments.
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

Everything was going well until we came up to the 1099-R for Military Retirement. The software's instruction on this point is confusing. Others in the TT Community were complaining of the same thing.
Last year's was easier to file.
