Review for 2013 Tax season

For most of the process Turbo Tax did an awesome job for explaining the different sections. It was quick and easy. However, filling out the state return was a bit confusing when it came to asking you about miscellaneous deductions. I thought I had to manually add back the state refund that was included on my federal return, but Turbo tax actually did automatically.
What's great about it: I like the detailed explainations for each section.
What's not so great: The state refund calculation is a bit confusing on the State refund calculation.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Tried and True..year after year!!

Makes filing taxes a breeze. Before I used TurboTax, I had always paid a professional and didn't feel that I got my money's worth, since they were using a tax prep program. I figured if they could do it, so could I. TurboTax ROCKS!!!
What's great about it: Easy to navigate and plenty of helpful hints when you need them

Great Product. I've been using TurboTax for the past 10 years and it just gets easier and easier. One day Its going to do my taxes for me and I'll just get an email.

Still the Best

Federal: Long time TurboTax user, spanning 20 years. Program is quick and easy to use, even for a retiree. Love it when you complete a section and you go back to review one or more sections and it shows you your answers from the first time and it keeps any prechecked boxes. It makes it easy.
Did some flipping to forms to check how numbers were calculated and then switched back to Easy Q&A.
Improvements: Last year we moved to another state. Seem to do an excellent job in inputting data from last year. However, it failed to ask me to enter state and local taxes we paid, Schedule A line 5.
We got a refund in Ohio, paid Wisconsin taxes and paid Dublin, Ohio local taxes. Yet when filling out the form as to how much we paid in taxes, it picked up the taxes paid in 2013 to Wisconsin but did not ask for how much we paid Dublin and Wisconsin for our 2012 filing. I caught it during a review of the printed version and had to enter FORMS mode to enter the numbers...no place to add in Easy mode.
After entering taxes paid in 2013 for 2012 when back through in easy mode and the numbers did not show, so I reentered the numbers. During the PDF review the numbers changed but were wrong. It added the numbers twice so I had to go back into forms, edit the number, save, and switch back to easy mode. No excuse for TT not to ask for these numbers or to prompt us to enter the data, I used TT for both states and Federal last year. Very disappointed.
Wisconsin Module
This module has issues. After completing WIS version went back to Federal and added some numbers I missed the first time.

When I got to the state instead of going through it section by section it recommended going through every section, which was excellent advise and logical.
So started going though the screens and the data is there from my original entry but not all boxes were prechecked like the federal version. So I had to read the questions and check boxes again. This slows you down. If you check a box the first time it should have saved the checked box so when you got through it again its easier and quicker to go through these screens.
Also had to go to forms to see the detail on why there was zero medical cost on line 1, of form 1. That was a pain, could not understand why I was getting no credit for $11,000+ in medical cost.
Improvement: On page one why not show the Effective tax rate below your refund or payment like you do on the Federal.
Picky stuff, but these are the details needed to take a very good software program and make it an excellent program.
What's great about it: Accurate, easy interface, logical flow
What's not so great: Error in Wisconsin State and Federal versions

Refund Heaven

I have used Turbo Tax for 10 years now and also do my parents' taxes. It's nice to not have to read all the instructions as when doing them manually. TT just takes into account ages, etc and asks pertinent questions. I did need to make a change on one of my state tax entries though and could not go back to the step-by-step, had to change to forms and make the changes there. Would be nice to be able to go back to step-by-step. Seems as though I remember being able to do that in previous years. All in all, it's a great product.
What's great about it: Love the step-by-step and how it applies the federal answers to state taxes
What's not so great: Could not go back to step-by-step state to change entry.

Turbo Tax is great

Overall, great (!) program, and either you are tweaking to make it smoother, or I am just getting better each year (or combo of both?).
Can you provide option to send us to the IRS publication information of the topic we are in?
I go through on my own - Let user know they should view all topics but don't need to "start" those that do not apply to them - saves time.
Put the name of the person at the top of each page when doing 1099 info - can get confusing when both have auxiliary income. Clarify commuting miles are all miles driven on that vehicle for the whole year for business commuting.
Inform user about status of self-employment tax during the step by step (if and how much, and how much deductible.
That's all for now. Again - great program.
What's great about it: Ability to alternate between step-by-step and forms.
What's not so great: Have to enter in info again if going through again instead of just clicking continue.
