Always use Turbo Tax

Always use Turbo Tax went with the compeditor one year ended up buying Turbo Tax anyway. Even took it to a tax pro and still came out what i would have got back.
What's great about it: It just makes it easy
What's not so great: Wish I knew more about taxes

Painless effort

I have found the Turbo Tax instructions easy to navigate through and very helpful. Our financial status has changed to where it is a simple task to do our own taxes.

Better than doing Manually!!

Been using Turbo Tax for years. Never fails me. Not being a PC Geek, it takes time to fix errors made. Found it easier to note errors and go back and start again by picking Income or deductions or what ever segment held the mistake.
What's great about it: relatively easy to complete. Good directions and flow.
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to go back to fix errors.

Pleasantly Surprised

Overall, this is a great program. Definitely saves money in professional tax preparer fees. I had confusion on filing state taxes, going from a state with no taxes (NV) to a state with such (MI). I am specifically referring to a pension paid through NV PERS. Upon preparing MI State Tax Returns, I interpret MI income as money paid by MI. My husband interprets it as money received while living in MI, even though it is paid by another state. This was critical to know, in my opinion, in choosing the correct "Michigan Distribution". I hope we made the correct choice.
What's great about it: I liked the step-by-step and detailed explanations
What's not so great: Confusion on filing from one state to another, specifically pensions

Easy to Use

the only real problem was the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for individuals over 70 1/2 years and getting a retirement from Office of Personnel Management (OPM). There is no RMD, but I had to call OPM and hold for 15 minutes to find that out! Otherwise, an excellent way to file taxes.
What's great about it: Makes income and deductions easy to enter.
What's not so great: Some confusion regarding Required Minimum Distributions from OPM.

I have used TurboTax for many years. Last year's data did not transfer forward into this year's filing. Not happy because it is supposed to transfer, plus the extra time to input data that is present in the computer from last year.
Also, you are given options as to which forms to print. What do we really need to print. Especially when e-filing with the state returns. I think I mailed my state return last year so I did not have a copy of the paperwork related to state e-filing. I think in the past, you had to mail some forms to the state even if you e-filed. I may be mistaken. Apparently this year you do not send any paperwork via the mail which is great.
