On the whole, good.
Very difficult, occasionally, to find original entry point of data transferred from or calculated elsewhere. For a small business, data entry might be simpler or more guided (without needing more expensive version of Turbotax -- since 95% or more of thast program is unneeded).
What's great about it: good, complete coverage for return
What's not so great: difficult to find sources for calculated/entered elsewhere amts
Pros: I bought or sold investments

So Easy to Use

As a retired CPA I find the program extremely easy to use. You can download security transactions from your broker avoiding wasting timing doing input. Just wish it were easier to get back to certain areas when trying to adjust input.
What's great about it: Guides you through input by category
What's not so great: Not always easy to locate where you want to go when making changes after initial input

What's great about it: don't ask me right now
What's not so great: cannot get Turbo Tax to transmit return even though I followed IRS instructions

Turbo Tax is great; but not for retired clergy
on October 15, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax for many years. I have worked as a seasonal tax preparer for several years, and am more familiar with taxes than the average Turbo Tax user. I have always chosen to prepare our taxes at home, using Turbo Tax, rather than use the commercial programs available to me at work. Unfortunately, Turbo Tax has not made it simple for clergy, especially retired clergy, to correctly do their taxes. It has been necessary to use over rides and include separate statements, which means the returns cannot be efiled. There have been improvements recently, with problems solved for some situations, but we had to paper file once again this year. Many retired ministers have part, or all, of their pensions officially designated as housing allowance. Turbo Tax can now handle the housing allowance issue for most clergy; but not for reitred clergy. It does not provide a way to apply the housing allowance reduction to the pension and include the explaination which the IRS wants. It also does not deal with the issue of reducing the retired, but still working, minister's business expenses by the percentage of expences attributable to untaxed clergy pension income. These issues only apply to a small fraction of tax payers; but they are important to those of us to whom they do apply. As far as I know, there is no other software which would handle these issue any better, so I will continue to use Turbo Tax; but I do wish they would make the effort to make it possible for us to efile.
What's great about it: Very detailed and clear for almost all topics
What's not so great: Does not deal well with some special situations

13-Year User

I am 75 years old and I have been using TurboTax since tax calculation programs came on the market. I tried the others but always found them lacking in some respect compared to T/T. I no longer even consider any other program for my taxes. Coupld with Quicken, which I have used since Quicken v2, it is a slam-dunk. When I was using pencil, paper and mechanical calculator my taxes took over a week to complete and costly mistakes were common. With the latest versions I can do much ,ore complex taxes in 4-6 hours with NO mistakes. T/T is my program of choice!
What's great about it: Very Easy to follow procedure with superb instructions and built-in reviews
What's not so great: Pre-PDF Saved Files are not accessable from year-to-year so eventhough they are saved to hard-drives they are lost.

No Fear with TurboTax!
on October 15, 2014

I have done my own taxes for over 50 years, and used TurboTax for 20+ years. Even with my tax knowledge and experience, without the use of TurboTax, I would not have the confidence my tax return was complete and accurate. I've had several opportunities to review other peoples tax returns prepared by "professional" prepare businesses. It is not difficult to find gross errors and assumptions in their work. If those were my returns, I would live in fear of an audit. No fear with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Easy to use, even for a beginner, yet comprehensive.
