Fast, Convenient & Great Help
on October 15, 2014

I really like Turbo Tax and have been using it now for several years! I have never encountered any problems and have always been happy with the outcome of each return!! I recommend Turbo Tax for the convenience and the price as well!!
What's great about it: Quick amount of time to fill everything out
What's not so great: That the State returns aren't a FREE e-file as well
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Very Good ... Still Needs Improvement

See Cons above:
Also program won't let me e-file when I have over-ridden any fields. Often I do this to make things more clear, especially comments. Should be a way to tell it to e-file anyway.
Big issue on the lack of NOL calculation worksheets and help.
Charitable contrib. worksheets are unwieldy. Should be a way to summarize contribs. without having to plug in specific dates and amounts for cash contribs.
The # of recurring payments helps ... but really ... who gives exactly the same amount to Salvation Army and other bell ringers each time. I must have had 37 different amounts to enter to "complete" the detailed "picture".
Some worksheets abrieviations in the forms list are a little unclear. For instance, div.& cap. gains wks. and others.
Should also be listed right after schedule D stuff.
What's great about it: Plentiful good explainations. Easy to follow.
What's not so great: Needed: More help and worksheets for figuring out NOL and NOL carryover.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Improvements
on October 15, 2014

Turbo Tax was quite easy to use. things flowed. The data input dialogue was organized along lines other than what the forms would suggest. Having to enter both income and expenses in the income section created an impression, even short lived, of missing items. It made one a bit antsy at times.
Getting explanations of the tax codes seems futile at best. Explaining elements of the dialogue in simple terms might be impossible, but worth a try. The first pass at Sch C expenses ignored several categories which only appeared after the 1st pass was complete. Could be user error or program flow logic. Overall, a -pleasant improvement over last year. Keep it up.
What's great about it: Better dialogue, Better deduction&error checking
What's not so great: Some explanations get a bit involved and complicated

I've used Turbo Tax since 1999 and love it. I also use the Audit Defense when came in handy the one time I"ve been audited. Money well spent.
What's great about it: Simple to use. Accurate and offers Audit Defense.
What's not so great: did not import from my 2012 return

Impressive Customer Support
on October 15, 2014

Main thing is that TT offers incredible customer support. Both for 2012 and 2013 taxes I was able to talk to intelligent helpful customer support people (all of them females, FWIW). And quickly too. One CPA spent nearly an hour with me on some difficult retirement income issues. I don't see support like this for any other software product I know of.
On the down side I had an issue when entering 1 or 4 rental houses purchased in 2012. Even tho I correctly entered the purchase price of one of my houses, it didn't end up in my depreciation calculations. I saved the file and I can repeat this issue over and over again: even tho the price of the house has been entered it won't show up in depreciation until I at least go over and look at the depreciation module. I think at least some warning should happen; otherwise you assume that when you enter a key value like this that TT will process it to completion. Otherwise the program is pretty great.
What's great about it: Some of the best phone support in the computer world
What's not so great: Had to file an amended return because TT doesn't see some numbers you enter until process is over

This is my third year using TurboTax. I only now realized it does not automatically save your return. I am very disappointed in this lack of this feature.
What's great about it: Computer generated filing
What's not so great: Does not save automatically
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

The Devil is in the Donations
on October 15, 2014

TurboTax Deluxe is great. Easy to use, easy to follow. Some of the explanations are written for Mensa level people, however. I would like to see an easier way to enter non-cash donations. Searching for each item in Its Deductible would have taken me a month, which is why I opted to enter and value the items myself using Goodwill and Salvation Army valuation tools. It still took a long time, but would have been impossible otherwise.
What's great about it: Everything flowed well. I like that you can no longer enter data directly on the actual forms.
What's not so great: Itemizing many items being donated is a huge pain. The program assumes you are donating 1 item when it may be many.
