Indespensible

I have done my taxes for years as an attorney familiar with tax. Once I started using Turbo Tax in 2011, I found it a real stress reducer; found issues I was missing; gives advice on not filing electronically if California needs to see a form with tax paid information. Etc. I would never now do my tax returns without Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Can See Worksheets and Forms; good Step by Step

Love the Guide

Have been using for years and can't imagine doing our taxes any other way. Highly recommend.
What's great about it: Step by Step with possibilities you haven't thought of
What's not so great: Sometimes tough to determine a specific form to go to . .depends on how simple or complex the return
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Clunky but easier than doing it by hand

Turbotax is an easy way to prepare taxes, but for some reason in step-by-step when you revisit a topic it insists on asking the same series of inapplicable questions which were answered earlier. There should be a "straight to the data" choice when you revisit a Schedule C or Schedule F. For crying out loud, I didn't receive any farm insurance payments, and of course all my investment is still at risk. but I might find a receipt or correction and it is too much of a hassle to get back to where the numbers are hiding.
What's great about it: Fills out all the forms for me
What's not so great: Hard to revisit info ... redundant

Too clumsy; needs more shortcut options

There should be more options for more experienced users.
Biggest issue is the treatment of Foreign Tax Credits. It is extremely difficult to link the forms 1099 to the Forms 1116. Very confusing. Also wouldn't allow e-filing with more than one Form.
Simple example: There is no way in the Federal part of the program to Allocate ALL of your overpayment to estimates. However, that option is available in the state of Illinois
What's great about it: Solid end product
What's not so great: Cumbersome to use for an experienced user. Problem with Foreign Tax Credits

I particularly like the abiility to import and then edit the info from the prior year.
What's great about it: couldn't do this correctly without TurboTax
What's not so great: one or two questions were confusing

2031 Done at last!
on October 15, 2014

More good improvements this year, nice that Intuit can keep improving as well as providing friendly screens to capture data, which may be all new compared to last year's tax forms.
What's great about it: Easier to move quickly through screens, the Done and Next buttons are in similar spots on consecutive screens now.
What's not so great: Filling in detail on the 2210 supporting lines, which is usually tough.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

was not really happy with the process

The 2013 return introduced and copied forms from 2012 and did not allow me to delete them! More precicely in 2012 I claimed using my car partly for business. In 2013 I did not want to repeat that but was forced to complete the unnecessary forms. ALSO the state return was getting into a vicious cycle and skipping the MA return steps sending me to do a second extension. I have been a Turbo Tax user for more than 10 years and hD SOME OF THESE ISSUES IN SOME OF THE PAST RETURNS. This year's return was the worst. The 2013 version is full of bugs...
What's great about it: Remembered last year's data
What's not so great: Error checking was inadequate and provided no capability to delete some of last year's forms
