Not nearly as good as it should be.

First I'll say that I have used TurboTax to do my returns for more years than I remember, at least 20.
There are lots of problems that could be so much easier to deal with. I often get cryptic messages like, "Sched E (undefined): P/Y Line C must be entered" with no explanation of what it means, no instructions for the line, and, what would be the simplest solution, no link to take me to the form or show the instructions for the line.
There are also many situations where you have to go to the IRS web site to figure out what to do.
If all you have is a basic return, then you should have no problems.
Intuit actively lobbies to not let the IRS give you free forms to file and to not let the IRS help you do your returns.
Where is an open source tax return software package?

What's great about it: Handles most, but not all common issues well
What's not so great: Really cuts corners on many issues, sometimes extremely frustrating!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Gets easier each year

If you follow the steps carefully, most people can easily surprise themselves and complete their taxes quickly and in a timely manner. The program has definitely improved. You just need to get over the fear of doing it.
What's great about it: Quick and simple. Easier this year than previous years.
What's not so great: none for this year.

Deluxe-- - excellent -error chk - helped refund

I contacted Customer Service (Kaitland) who was excellent in assisting with my double entry. I got an extension and put my return to the side until now! A few questions and was able to move quickly to the final review!
I would definitely recommend Turbo Tax to all my friends. I have been a user since 2007 (maybe even sooner than 2007)

Could improve product

Your product is a good one and I overall like to use it. However there are some annoying things that should be changed. As I noted in the "Cons" section above, the program "forgets" the answers that I just gave it when I click on BACK or I go to the section again from the start of the return. Usually these are radio buttons, but I shouldn't have to answer them more than once. Also, the program asked me for the name of an S Corp for the K-1 worksheet, even though I no longer had the stock and I had told a prior year's program that it was a final K-1. There was no way to tell the program to ignore it on final review.
What's great about it: Flexibility to go from interview to selecting specific topics
What's not so great: Program didn't remember certain answers when clicking back. There also was no way to delete an S Corp K-1 worksheet.

Good but not great

Provided good support for collecting and calculating my taxes. However, since I filed filing extensions and paid different amounts than the program calculated, I had to find where the amounts are entered and override them to get the correct tax refunds calculated.
What's great about it: Helped me through all of the data collection and calculations.
What's not so great: Assumed incorrect filing extension payments. I needed to search for where they were stored and override.

TurboTax is the most efficient tax filing system around. It allows you to file accurately and quickly, all the while checking your returns for errors. It's a win-win situation!
What's great about it: Love the step-by-step directions and encouragement
What's not so great: Nothing comes to mind

I've been using TurboTax for about 10-12 years, and wouldn't think of doing it differently. Never audited or questioned, I'm confident in the product.
What's great about it: easy, accurate, thorough
What's not so great: none, except when it did not transfer previous year info (2011)

Easy does it

Have used this s/w now for over 10 years. I feel that it is time that I hire a pro. just to see where things are with my filing and possibly saving from doing amended returns from previous years. After which, I will continue for another 10 years or so.
What's great about it: How smoth it is to get through the process
What's not so great: Not sure if I could have gotten more deductions from hiring a pro.
