Changes Needed

In the Federal Easy Step, in the underpayment penalty area, if you select the annualized income method, the program checks Boxes C & E in part ll of Form 2210. If you later decide not to use the annualized method and go back through the Easy Step underpayment area and select "NO" on the annualized method, the program does NOT uncheck Boxes C & E in part ll of Form 2210. You have to go to Form 2210 and manually uncheck these boxes. If you don't, Form 2210Ai for the annualized method stays in your forms. And you can't file electronically, because Form 2210Al is incomplete. The New York form needs to be improved for the situation where you have an overpayment of taxes and want to apply it to the next year's taxes. You should be able to do this directly on the tax return,( IT-201 Page 4) as it can be done on Federal 1040, Instead, it has to be done on IT-2105-WKS. This is not intuitive. And if you aren't interested in calculating estimated taxes at the time, it's very difficult to figure out how to apply the overpayment to next year's taxes.
What's great about it: Overall, did a good job
What's not so great: But there are some glitches that need to be corrected

I have used TurboTax for several years now and am always impressed by the efficiency with which it works. In addition, I have had occasion to recommend the service to friends and co-workers.
What's great about it: That the program goes into every facet of my annual income.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

First Time

Friends have been telling me for a long time I should use TurboTax and that I would have no problem with it. They were right! Instructions were clear with what information needed to be available or gathered for entry to utilize best results. Either I didn't understand, or there is a bit of delay, when a section is reviewed or edited. Seems you have to re-enter all details rather than just getting to the area that needs an adjustment. This did not take too much time for me, but did cause some repetitiveness. Look forward to using these services again! Thank you for making this a user friendly experience.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: Having to re-enter info when section is reviewed/edited
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have been using Turbo Tax since before the days of floppies (young readers would not even know about punched cards and floppies). As always, I am happy that the installs are not as "fuzzy" and difficult as other products. My copies are always bought but not always run on the same computer. Example, I mean, I have a 15 yr old DELL PC with just enough memory to run TT to print my taxes. My new SURFACE PRO 2 does not have a CD driver so I copied TB from CD to a thumb drive in my old PC and installed on my Surface from the stick ... no problem even loading updates and state tax.
THANK YOU TURBO TAX!

Don't blame the IRS; Blame Congress!

I'd certainly hate to return to pencil and paper. SUGGESTIONS: Since many entries carry from w/s to w/s to form to form to form in what occasionally seems to be an almost circular path, it can be really difficult to locate THE place to change/correct an entry. In the Forms List and Topics List, I'd like a box for ME to check (or enter a number or letter) after completing some phase of manually checking a form or w/s. Wouldn't do anything; just be a scorekeeper. Add a box (as the Mass w/s does) to designate ALL overpayment as Estimated-Tax for next year, so I wouldn't have to change the number manually every time the tax changes (after I no longer need my "refund/tax-due" summary to be displayed). Step-by-Step still seems to demand a LOT of annoying steps that appear irrelevant after a few times, but I don't have a good scheme to streamline it - so I usually just skip directly to w/s's and forms. Unfortunately, if I then do try to use SbS for some entry, it drags me back through all the irrelevant stuff I'd already plowed through. Maybe this is just a hazard of trying to use both schemes instead of one OR the other. I'd like a warning when some tiny entry would disqualify me from E-filing (may only apply to Mass rules, which are really wacky). The charge for E-filing my state form seems excessive.
What's great about it: Ease of Massachusetts data entry has improved.
What's not so great: Finding a source-entry can be difficult. See below.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
