The 'Con' isn't a knock against TurboTax, in fact it is a left-handed compliment. TurboTax makes filing simple.
I've been using the product annually for at least a decade, it just keeps getting better and better.
What's great about it: The Q&A is thorough and thought-provoking
What's not so great: I'm always reminded of how complex tax has gotten
Pros: I bought or sold investments

NY credit for CT
on October 6, 2014

Without TT, taxes would be impossible. But manual checking is required in my case. 1. I had to delete an old K-1 form that kept demanding to be filled in. 2. The worst problem is that when I took credit for NY taxes as a CT resident, the proper NY source income was not entered. As a result, without a manual over-ride, the credit would have been too high and the CT taxes paid too low. So, if you take credit for taxes paid to NY be sure to check that the NY source income on which you paid NY taxes is correct on the CT form.
What's great about it: Taxes are impossible without TT
What's not so great: Manual checking required, over-rides

Helpful tool

I would like to see the charities listed in alphabetic order so they are easier to find and correspond to the way Quicken produces the charities report. I have been suggesting this for years but to no avail.
What's great about it: I use it only to get my act together so I can deliver the right stuff to my account without a lot of followup.
What's not so great: I still find some sections confusing, like depreciation.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
