I decided to review my tax return from 2012 and when I redid it on Turbo Tax 2012, my federal return was $2000 more than it was when I originally filed for that year and with the State, I got back and extra $1000.
What's not so great: Tax on Long Term Cap Gain

I had a situation with the settlement of an estate where tax questions were raised about investments overseas...it was a little difficult to understand and follow, but Turbo Tax provided excellent information and explanation. Thank you.
What's great about it: Handled every single detail accurately and quickly. We had a different tax return situation this year, but TT was ready
What's not so great: none I can think of...every situation was handled!!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo Tax enables me to file my own long form return. I think without Turbo Tax I definitely would be unable to receive as much credit in my return. My only criticism is probably my own making which is I never could locate where my medical mileage needed to be filed and also postage expense for my donated charities.
What's great about it: Questions asked to file your return are easy to understand , and to answer;
What's not so great: Could not locate earlier input after progressing with my return;

Long preparation

My main issue was dealing with MLP K-1 reports. TT interviews are not complete, they do not relate exactly to the information in the the reports received from the MLPs. It is even worse with disposition of an MLP. It should be aligned to the language and the data that exist in the K1 report, that would make it very easy to enter the information accurately. It should also be able to link 1099-B lines to a specific MLP disposition, so it can correlate all that information, link it together and correctly adjust the basis and gains to fulfill the IRS requirements.
What's great about it: Seems to be pretty detailed and contains most required items
What's not so great: MLP are not dealt correctly.

Need to handle foreign income and deductions
on August 3, 2014

I use both TurboTax United States and TurboTax Canada because i am a United States citizen residing in Canada. I like the ability in the Canadian TurboTax to enter foreign income as foreign income in the currency of the income plus an exchange rate as well as the related tax. I wish they would extend the capability to income reported on Canadian slips and to deductions as well as allowing cut and paste into the data entry.
For TurboTax United States, I would like the ability to enter all income and deductions in the currency of the income or deduction along with the interest rate. Including the ability to have default and specific rates also would be useful. The Easy Step method should have a check box on all forms that says the data is on a foreign equivalent. This way Turbotax wouldn't flag the pension form related to my wife's Nova Scotia pension as not having a US tax number because Nova Scotia is a Canadian province. All places where addresses are required should recognize foreign postal codes if the foreign equivalent check box is checked. This change would help US citizens who have foreign income and deductions and could be an add-on that we could purchase for download.
I do not e-file because there is no mechanism to add a cover letter and to submit PDF or jpeg copies of all donation, medical and other deduction related receipts and no provision for copies of all W-2s, 1099s, foreign income statements, etc.
I do appreciate the full carry-over of prior year's data because it reduces data entry and provides a good check that I have included everything.
What's great about it: It would be impossible to do this by hand
What's not so great: Lacks understanding of non-resident taxpayers
