2013 Taxes finally complete!
on June 20, 2014

As usual, everything was basically straight forward and simple to prepare. Really only had one problem and it took me 3 weeks to get answered but only because 1 person out of many gave a detailed solution to getting the returns to be accepted to the IRS and state. I have been using Turbo Tax for about 20 years and up to the time that I retired I used it to prepare about 15 returns per year for family or close friends and have always been satisfied.
What's great about it: Usually simple and accurate
What's not so great: Trying to sell upgrades before knowing the details.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Delux

I have used TurboTax for 20 years and have been happy with how it saves me time and keep track of past records. It reminds me of possible tax saving deductions and credits.
However, a weak area is in dealing with foreign income and assets. This year I started to receive distributions from Canadian RRSP. It was quite a headache trying to figure out where to enter the data, deciding on what income category, and reporting foreign assets.
What's great about it: Time saving, fairly easy to use, accurate and thorough
What's not so great: weak on dealing with foreign income, assets and withholding taxes

2013 Turbotax

Great product and have been using it for years. Had a little hiccup this year where the system insisted that I had a Prior year child credit (paid 2012 fee in 2013) when I did not. No matter how many times I hit the "no" it insisted I did. Finally I had to go to the forms screen during review and hit the "delete this info" to clear it off. Nothing else would fix that. Must be a glitch in the 2013. I have never had that issue before and I have been using TT since 2003.
If there was one thing I did not like, it was having to go to the turbotax site manually to have to file an electronic extension. Why only offer a paper print copy option in the electronic software with free e-file, but tno electronic extension? Made no sense. No biggy, I just switched over to Turbotax.com and filed my extension there, but you would think that would be built in to the system instead of only having paper copy options for extensions
What's great about it: Easy, simple and concise and rolls over most relevant info from prior year
What's not so great: Need easier way to file extension without having to go over to turbotax site tofile extension electronically. Really?

Great Product - Two Frustrations
on June 21, 2014

1) TT keeps bugging me about filing state taxes even though my state (Florida) does not have a state income tax!
2) When reviewing work product or going back to fix some item TT does not retain some elections so I have re-enter them again. Example: I had already answered YES or NO but when reviewing work the answer has been blanked out.
What's great about it: step by step rocks!
What's not so great: State taxes questions and re-filling out information

Ok But Could be better
on June 21, 2014

This year seemed a little more difficult to use, don't know if my computer was slower or what, Turbo tax just seemed a little more difficult to use at start up. I have been using TT for over 8 years & when I installed 2013, and began my return, it could not & would not find my previuos year's info or allow me to guide it to it. Weird, but true. The free e file was great of course, but it would be even better if state efile was included for free also, being for the 3rd year in a row, I owed less than it would have cost me to efile my state return (a little pricey for under $5.00 due) Even if I was getting a refund, it would have to be substantial for the current rate TT charges. A sliding scale would make it more appealing, think about, ok? The help files were pretty good as well. Seemd a little easier to understand this year. Otherwise I am satified with Turbo Tax again. Thanks and keep improving it.
What's great about it: Free Efile Instant help
What's not so great: Did not find last year's tax return
