I've used Turbo Tax for years and see no reason to change - always easy, accurate and reputable with an easy interview feature and great research tools.
What's great about it: Accurate, easy to use, imports last year's data flawlessly
What's not so great: None

Got the best refund

Was easy to use. Answered the questions and filled in the forms. Got back more that I was expecting. However the program did not automatically add the charity address from one donation time to another even though it was the same charity and highlighted. (Minor) Did not hold the payment confirmation page in the form area so I could print it out. (Minor-Major) Could not go back to get it.
What's great about it: Easy to do, answered all the questions
What's not so great: Sometimes the BACK button went further than just one screen.

Look Out for the Identity Protection PIN
on June 7, 2014
Posted by: Glowmann
My wife had a phony tax return submitted in her name. The IRS responded with an Identity Protection PIN for her for this year's return. The Turbotax instructions for entering this PIN said that it was required for the first name on the form, but was silent on the second name. The first name (me) did not have a PIN. The second name (my wife) had a PIN, but the instructions did not address the second name and I did not see see a space for it, so I inferred that it was not required and I did not enter it. The Federal return was rejected for lack of the PIN. The state form was rejected because the Federal return was rejected. The email instructions from Turbotax were easy to follow and I entered the PIN and resubmitted the returns.
I recommend that Turbotax review the wording of the section on PIN entry. I went straight to "Other Tax Situations" to enter the PIN the second time around, and the instructions were clear; but they did not seem to be the same instructions that I saw when I walked through the instructions on the first return.
NOTE: I checked the box below that I have kids, but they are grown and do not live with me. If you want to know if I have children at home, or under 18, or who are dependents, please ask a more specific question.
What's great about it: Fixing the return was straightforward
What's not so great: The original Federal return was rejected because the IP PIN was missing
Pros: I bought or sold investments

IP PIN - Part 2
on June 7, 2014
Posted by: Glowmann
The "Learn More" option for IP PIN reads in part as follows:
"If you receive an IP PIN and you are the primary taxpayer (the first person listed on the tax return) you must submit your IP PIN with your tax return when you file. You can file electronically or by paper, but you must include your IP PIN on your tax return."
This wording is open to interpretation that an IP PIN for the non-primary taxpayer (the second person listed on the tax return) does not have to be entered.
What's great about it: NA - info only
What's not so great: The wording of the tax guidance is inadequate

Good product. I will continue to use it. I had some difficulity in finding the assistance phone number, but when I did the phone assist went very well.
What's great about it: Sorted out my rental and home sale very well.
What's not so great: Had a problem resolving an error prior to submission but with phone assistance, it went very well

Federal great; State, so-so
on June 9, 2014

TurboTax did a great job with my Federal income tax return. I wish they would devote the same amount of attention to guiding customers through the sometimes arcane worlds that are the state income tax returns. Sometimes their guidance in the State income tax process could be clearer.
What's great about it: Loved the Federal guidance
What's not so great: The Sate support was so-so.

Made my taxes easy again!
on June 9, 2014

Makes returns easy. Information carry-over from previous years is great. The info carry-over to the state tax forms (we have 2 state tax returns to submit) is fabulous as well. Love the deduction and income prompts from what you had the previous year as well.
What's great about it: Love the step by step and info roll-over from previous years
What's not so great: Cost of e-filing state returns is very much overpriced. I mail my state every year
Pros: I bought or sold investments
