After a 25 year gap of not doing my returns myself, but instead having an accountant friend do them, I was apprehensive about doing my own taxes again. But on advice from family members (including a niece who is a 25 year CPA whose specialty is in taxes), I took the plunge. I am glad I did, because it was easier than I thought using TurboTax. I will not drag my feet again waiting to get my taxes done. The confidence this program gave me will help me be much more prompt in filing my tax returns.
What's great about it: Very easy to use

Paid Twice- Good Bye Turbo tax

Paid twice because I have 3 kids. once on line for one use then 2 on the desktop. Net year accountant for sure. Too expensive for all your time and effort. Too many additional fees. 10 year user..... Good bye

It seemed that when doing the charitable deductions that I would have to go back to add, even if I had similar items to deduct. I had other items that I donated but were not on the walk through/easy route.
Also, I'm paying my daughter's college tuition and could not deduct under educational expenses.
What's great about it: the continued walk through
What's not so great: having to start deduction class over

Using TurboTax is EASY

TurboTax is very good for those who need help with their returns or for those who know what they are doing but just want an E-Filed return provider. The return is checked for math, logic, and input errors or omissions that are detected from other data that you entered. Of course, remember the no program can detect errors of omission that you omitted intentionally or just forgot to enter but had no effect on other parts of the return.
I have used it for years and find it to be very good for the price.
It is updated every time you open your return or start the program, if you choose to accept the updating process, which you should do, for your own protection. The updating is a very important process as the IRS does change forms and processes all the time.
The fact that you can get a tully printed copy of all the calculations if of great benefit to you if want to review the entire content of your returns and their methods of determining a final number that goes into the actual filed return.

Saved me from hiring an accountant!

I have been using Turbotax and doing my own taxes for all my adult life, but this year with college costs for my kids I thought I might need help. Well, after researching through all of the resources Turbotax provides, I found out that I just should have let Turbotax handle it. It had the right answer all along. I got to see my payment of $2200 go to a refund of over $1800 after all my medical expenses and then the American Opportunity credit for my son's college costs.
What's great about it: Over 10 years of using Turbotax and this year almost changed that, but thank you Turbotax for all the resources.

Form K-1 issues delayed filing and then rejected

Everything worked smoothly until an issue with my K-1 caused me to waste an hour trying to find the error. The message pointed me to the wrong place. I had to delete the K-1 and reenter everything which pushed me beyond the midnight filing deadline.
When it came time to make payments the date was forced to be after the deadline, so the return was rejected.
TurboTax walked me through a resubmission of an ammended return (I'm not sure if this was appropriate since the original was rejected). I am now waiting for that to get accepted and rejected.
What recourse do I have if the government penalizes me for bad directions from TurboTax?
In all the years (over 10) I have used the program I have not had any problems like this. I cannot find a phone number to call to discuss the issue with anyone.
What's great about it: Easy to use program, thorough
What's not so great: Misdirected error in my K1 caused delayed filing and rejected payment.
