turbo tax again!

Very easy to use for 80 percent of us. Now for the rich guys, those in the top 20 percent... probably better to use a certified tax accountant. Turbo tax is okay for most of us with simple tax situation.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: gets more difficult if you have a complicated situation
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great Help Again.... slight annoyance this year

After I updated on 4/15/14, I still got a message to revisit forms that earlier were under construction. My main issue was with the form to claim state sales tax. I revisit and went through and added the information. In the step by step mode it should my sales tax amount, but on the summary page it still listed zero, and I kept getting the page telling me to revisit the form. I eventually wen to the actual form and was going to type in the amount, and saw that it was included.
Otherwise a great and helpful tool.
What's great about it: Easy navigation and clear instructions
What's not so great: Annoyed that notice about revisiting incomplete forms did not go away after update late on tax day

Good Software - Payment Auth Proc is a pain

The tax portion is excellent.
Your payment authorization process is a mess.
I nearly missed the filing deadline because the system couldn't match my name to the name on the return to authorize deducting the payment from the refund. It just kept looping me through a cryptic error message. I switched to payment with a credit card, and the system kept hammering me to sign in or open an account. It should have kept me signed in throughout the process and not have to sign in again for payment. I got it filed at 11:59 PDT, but some of my admiration for the brand is diminished.
What's great about it: Very intuitive and easy to use
What's not so great: I nearly missed the filing deadline because the system couldn't match my name to the return.

Consistent quality year after year

I have used Turbo tax for well over 20 years and, aside from the occasional bug, it has always been a pleasant experience.
What's great about it: easy, accurate, thorough
What's not so great: a bug now and then, takes some digging to see what is behind the curtain (chlld tax credit as an example)
Pros: I had a baby, I bought or sold investments

Multiple States Move to Turbo Tax

This year like last year I had to file my federal return in two states. However, this year the state in which I was considered a non-resident moved to using Turbo Tax to file tax returns online. I had already purchased the Deluxe Turbo Tax disk at my local office supply store. This meant that I needed to take my state as free and pay for an additional state download, take my non-resident state as free and pay for my state download, complete my federal return a second time using the free online version of Turbo Tax, or file a paper return in the alternate state. Since I waited to the last minute to file my return, I kinda had to use the electronic filing option. Fortunately, I contacted customer service with Turbo Tax and was able to get the added state download fee refunded to my card. That customer service agent has the best super power ever! The purchase was made within 24hrs of me contacting the customer service agent so they couldn't refund the money right away. I have a personal promise that they will get back in touch with me after the 24hr restriction to process my refund.
What's great about it: Online filing
What's not so great: More states = more fees
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

I filed after deadline because TT delayed filing

Although the program was well designed and easy to use, I won't trust it again to e-file my returns on time. I tried for nearly four hours to transmit my return and it finally went through after 3:00am on 4/16.
I know my accountant will file my returns on time. I should have let him file for me this year instead of using TT.

Easier then last year

As above it appeared easier this year which is good, anything to make it easy helps us. So keep in mind lets help the filers by making it easier. Last year it efiled my forms before saving them, this should NEVER happen. Remember make it easy. your friend Carlos
