Very user friendly

The software is good about prompting for changes that may have occured from one year to the next. However, it retains the info from previous years which can be an aid in triggering aspects of the current years return that you might have overlooked. All in all it's a big time saver over the old fashioned way of doing taxes.
What's great about it: Not having to enter a lot of information that does not change year to year.
What's not so great: Not many cons,

Laat second comedy of errors

As for waiting until April 15th to file, that was my fault. But you certainly should be able to expect the program to transmit your efile. Here it was, too late to print and mail, and it would not transmit. The Turbo Tax online forum had a LOT of angry people who had the same problem. The instructions say to get the update, which I did. Fortunately, someone else found that the update did not work until you do a hard quit of Turbo Tax and reload it. Their instructions don't tell you that. So at the last second, after several attempts to update the software, and attempt another transmit, I finally read the thread, and did a hard reboot. That did work. But it is a little frightening when the program doesn't give you any direction, its too late to mail it, and all you can do is pray that some third party figured out the problem. Boo to Turbo Tax for failing to properly test their product.
What's not so great: Turbo Tax kept failing to validate the e-file. MANY other people had this problem.

After many satisfied years, this year not so much

What was always best about Turbo Tax was that it was intuitive even for the least experienced. That feature has suffered in this edition. I was sent in circles and circles on the same questions, struggling to find familiar areas to complete the return. In one case there was a reference in the step-by-step instructions to line 16a, but I had no idea where line 16a was and why the information I was putting in was wrong. This was an awful experience and I will not be back next year.
What's great about it: I always liked the intuitive nature of this product, but I struggled with this edition.
What's not so great: Incomplete and assumptive information that results in frustrating circular activity with little result.

Great Job

It would hard for me to do my taxes the old-fashioned way with a calculator and digging around for all the correct forms. This loads everything when I put in the numbers. Awesome tool.
What's great about it: Calculations are completed immediately upon entry of data.

Great Except the Extra Hidden Fee at the End

Turbo Tax was great, until the end. I loved that it made everything easier and double-checked my accuracy. I didn't like that there is not an easy way to figure out where an error is coming from on the spreadsheets. My biggest problem with Turbo Tax is the hidden fee at the end. I do not like hidden fees. Turbo Tax should have been upfront from the beginning about e-filing for state as I could have taken the proper measures to mail my refund out in time instead of paying the fee, which is what they wanted.
What's great about it: It walked me through step by step
What's not so great: Doesn't fully explain error messages. Throws in hidden fee for e-filing

People pay tax preparers way too much to do their taxes. turbo tax will walk you thru for a very small purchase price.
What's great about it: step by step instructions, transfers data from last year, tracks history
What's not so great: needs easier access to pull up IRS publications and instructions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Wouldn't apply updates so I could efile on 4/15

I tried to e-file on 4/15 but it said there were updates that needed to be applied before it would allow me to file. I tried 5 times to apply the updates - each time it said the update was successful and each time it would not allow me to process the electronic filing. Very frustrating. My fault for waiting until the final day to file but no thanks to TurboTax either. Argh.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Wouldn't allow e-file - which is a major reason I purchase TurboTax
