11:45pm on 4/15/2014 and my taxes are done

Of course I waited until the last minute to do my taxes but I made the deadline. Thanks to TurboTax, I was able to import last years info, so I didnt have to add all my charties again.
What's great about it: Easy to import last years info
What's not so great: wish files were backed up to Turbo Tax Cloud
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Quick & easy
on April 15, 2014

It was quick and easy. I wasn't sure how to go about filing for a dependent. Turbo Tax made it easy!
What's great about it: It took little over an hour for an EZ return w/4 W2s!
What's not so great: 3 of the 4 W2s didn't import

Have used TT for 17 years. In the beginning it was fairly primitive with only paper printing allowed. The addition of pdf creating was a huge improvement. Reasonably priced and easy to use. You could say it is Intuit-ive. Seriously, as an engineer I am skeptical of software but this has not caused problems or an audit in the years being used. This year was sale of a house which was a complication but the help screens (and the IRS publication) made it understandable and manageable. Overall since the audit likelihood is always green, perhaps TT is not aggressive on tax reduction. But, a safe and clean return far outweighs a few dollars that may have been missed.
What's great about it: Keeps a comparison of prior years and makes e-file easy
What's not so great: Nothing
Pros: I moved

DO-IT-YOURSELF CONFIDENCE FOR THE NOVICE
on April 15, 2014
Posted by: WHYNOTALSO
MOSTLY, I REALLY MISS THE DAYS WHEN YOU USED TO ANALYZE MY INCOME SOURCES AND RELATE THEM TO NATIONAL STATISTICS...IS THAT ILLEGAL NOWADAYS...I ALSO MISS YOUR SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT OPTIONS OTHERS MIGHT TAKE FOR ADDED SAVINGS IN MY INCOME BRACKET!
What's great about it: SHORT + SWEET FOR THE PRO, ENOUGH DETAIL IN POP-UP WINDOWS TO SATISFY THE NOVICE, THE CURIOUS AND THE NEARLY COMPULSIVE
What's not so great: ADDICTIVE??? NEVER FELT NEED TO CHECK OUT THE COMPETITION!!!

Shazam! A refund!
on April 15, 2014

Try to have all the paperwork that will help, even if you're not sure - it's better to have more than you need than not enough. I used the Help for the first time and I was so glad that I did.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is like "it" is right by me, and tells me what I need to do.
What's not so great: Sometimes a little pushy about some things, but it's okay.

Can't eFile
on April 15, 2014
Posted by: 1standLastTime1
I was very disappointed that I could not efile despite paying for the it. 4 times I received a message indicating I had an update to install before I could efile. Each time I ran the update . but still could not efile. Very frustrating to have to go through this on April 15th. I need to be refunded for the State Efile charge
What's great about it: Software is self explanatory
What's not so great: Can't efile

Continued Improvements Every Year
on April 15, 2014
Posted by: Nefertari
I have been using your software for several years and seen improvements every year. The carry-over of previous year's data is improved, saves time by propagating basic information. For each tax topic, the software reduces complexity down to basic data needed for correct answers. There's no need to look through complex tax instructions or explanations. If, however you have questions on a topic, convenient links give more complete details and references on every subject.. It is only at the final step, Filing Return, when logical order breaks down. First, instructions offer to print/save returns before e-filing returns are sent. Further complexity comes when you need to pay an extra e-filing fee. Software sends you to pay the fee, but after entering bank data for Tax Refund Payment Due This is possibly confusing about whether return is filed or not. Section needs better order.
What's great about it: Clean, uncluttered look without worksheets/actual forms around edge.
What's not so great: Filing Tab: activities should be in better order ex. e-file, then print/save etc.
